Hi everyone! I joined VJ in May and started my journey on June. After months and months crying over this website I realized that I haven't introduced myself yet.

Well, let me fix that. I'm Giovanna, I'm 24 and got married to Eric on, 31th October 2011. We met in Italy in 2007, in my hometown while he was stationed in Belgium and kept in touch for a long time. He then got stationed in South Korea in 2009 and since then we started "dating". After a long and painful long distance relationship, he went back to the states and we decided it was about time to be together so I got on a plane and landed in Atlanta the 26th October 2011 and I finally met him after 4 long years. We were having some problems with all the paperwork and the army, they didn't wanna let him leave outside the barracks because he wasn't married but at the same time we couldn't apply for a fiance visa if he lived in the barracks, so we decided to get married FAST so that I could apply for a change of status. Unfortunately I had to go back to Italy in June and because of that we had to restart all over again and file an I-130. Our priority date was 19th June but now we're well over the 5 months. This whole process is too much for me I don't think I can take it anymore. I don't have a job and my husband has to pay for him and me. I missed our 1st year anniversary and I feel terribly guilty about it even though my husband says that it is okay and we'll make up for that I still think that I ruined something we both were looking forward to celebrate together. On top of that we are going to spend all the holidays apart and my birthday too. I know a lot of people are in my same situation and a lot of people are in even worse situations but I seriously can't "look at others" and think "it could be worse". The only thing I can think of is I'm not there when he needs me and I'm miles and months away from seeing him. Also recent ####### with Vermont office made my mood collapse under my shoes.

The good thing about this whole journey is this website, talking to you guys makes me feel better and knowing that you can understand how I feel cheers me up a little bit. I hope we all get approved soon and families can reunite.

Thanks to all of you!

Giovanna

Thanks a lot for the welcome! You just reminded me that my husband is "complaining" because anytime we're talking on skype my English sounds messed up and he thinks I am forgetting it all. The funny part is that I feel like my Italian is rusty too! I'm gonna be mute in a couple of years!

Don't feel bad. Whenever I try to say anything in Spanish, people look alarmed and point me toward the nearest bathroom.

Welcome Giovanna! I hope you find VJ to be a great resource - not just for the paperwork. I love hearing everyone's stories on here. It helps when we are trying to overcome our own obstacles to see how others made it through. :)

and... I've got to tell you... the Romanian language has vowels that my mouth was not designed to pronounce... my mother and father in law speak no English so I am trying hard to learn some basic stuff to communicate with them...lol I think they find it entertaining more than anything...when I can't say a word right no matter how much I try - I just tell him "it's my accent"!

I really love this website and the people in the forum. It's always nice to compare your situation to others and think "Maybe I'll be lucky like that guy" or "at least my situation is not as bad as that guy!". I like how everyone always tries to explain and help anyone asking for a little help or an advice. I wish I knew more about all the American bureaucratic stuff works so that I could help more but I am really ignorant about this whole process. the little I know is because of my husband explaining to me!

You know what? A couple of months ago I really wanted to start studying Romanian. It does have a lot of weird sounds to me (Italian has pretty simple sounds) but it sounds like a cool language to learn. A lot of words kinda sound like Italian mixed to Portuguese! Well good luck learning the language!
