I 129f duration

Hello,

Can anyone provide a rough timeline for the I 129f submittal? How long after I mail it in will I receive confirmation, and also, when can my fiance go to US consulate in her country, and then how long until she can travel?!!

Well, there are other visa types..

Suggest she look into ESTA, see http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-esta2008.html

if'n her goal is just to come to the USA for a visit with you.

This is not a quick or easy process, have you already filed the I129F and supporting documents?

If you want her to immigrate and live with you, then file soonish

Yes, she may visit

She'll need to travel with ties to Japan and entrance and duration of stay is never a guarentee

280 is conservative, many make it through in 7-8 months.

I copied this from another blog, seems like a good way to expedite the process. It makes sense that US system has huge back log and takes much longer.

J-wife and I got married in Japan in 2003. Just went down to Edogawa-ku city hall and said we are married and they gave us a piece of paper that says we are married, or at least I think that's what it said. We had our wedding ceremony shinto-style in 2005.

Took that marriage certificate to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, and applied for her US Green Card. The paperwork is then done in-house at the US embassy in Tokyo. The theory for doing this rather than the K-1 fiancee visa is that immigration centers in the US have a huge backlog of cases, while the US embassy in Tokyo does not. She will need a physical exam and maybe some shots. All in all, it was a quick and painless process, despite the paperwork, and the visa was ready in a matter of weeks not months.

Now wife and I are looking at the opposite situation, as I am looking to immigrate to Japan.

Things have changed over the years. To be eligible for DCF (direct consular filing - which it reads like that blog was talking about) you need to be living in Japan for at least 6 months prior to filing, and remain there at least for a little while while it processes.

DCF also isn't available in every country anymore (since around August last year I believe).

The other way is again, to be living in Japan with her (legally, not simply as a visitor), and on filing the I-130 (as a spouse) it will often mean a quick NOA2.

Correct, last August is when the new procedure took effect and since then, Japan is one of many countries where DCF is now unavailable.
