im confused does beneficiary need to have her letter of intent notarized? also should petitioner notarize it as well?

We didn't notarized ours and had no issues. Where did you read that rumor?

Always good to bring back up. However.. The foreign fiance(e) has to sign the 156k at the embassy. That form acts as her letter of intent. If you read it(especially the last part of it), you'll understand why.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

thanks for the clarification. i got that answer from ciudad juarez rep. i had called to confirm my interview and fingerprint appointment and she mentioned it should be notarized, but im gonna trust you guys more than them. from my experience the consulate helpline only confuses you more.

thanks again i was starting to worry. i will just reprint the letter of intent and add that i continue to support k1 visa as the visajourney intructions.

Hold your horses! If the Embassy said, notarize it, DO IT.

Nothing needs to be notarized unless otherwise stated by the Embassy.... you are saying that they instructed you to present them notarized. Can you email them instead of calling? This way they will give you confirmation in writing

Celeste makes an excellent point!

From the VJ site Ciudad Juarez Embassy info page:

"***Consulate staff does not provide accurate information via phone. Do not rely on what they tell you.***"

I would suggest that you get written confirmation based upon the above statement.

They do tend to give misinformation. They once told someone they did not need to bring financial documents. Crazy.

You can both make new letters of intent if you wish. No need to notarize them. They most likely will not even be asked for. They tend to use the bottom portion of the DS-156 that is signed in front of them as the letter of intent from the beneficiary, and never ask for one from the USC. (look in the instructions pdf on the very last page and there is an example form you will see where they sign, witness it and the part about intent to marry)

Like I said, you can go ahead and print up duplicates from the I-129F with fresh signatures and dates, but you certainly do not need to go out of your way to notarize them.
