I would like a little help with some clarification. I filed our documents for a K-1 and from what I see it says they were received on July 7. At this point in time I was out of the country visiting my fiance, and my mail was being forwarded to my sisters house. On September 6 she calls me saying a got a letter. This letter was a I-797 stating that my petition has been approved and forwarded to the listed consulate with an approval valid from 8/30 - 12/29. The Date of Notice was August 30. My question is which NOA is this? From the way it reads to me it appears to be the NOA2. Since I did not get most of my mail I am lost as to exactly where we are at as we have not heard anything since this notice, and I have been unable to reach the NVC by phone.

Congrats on your NOA2! Since some time has passed, you can try to bypass the NVC and try to get ahold of the embassy directly to see if they have your petition. And like you, I have been trying to reach NVC with no luck either.

Took your advice and called the embassy, they already had her interview set up. So excited now that we finally have a date. I was worried because it was so fast, but I guess me being there with her helped. Thanks, all.

It depends on which letter, if any, accompanies the I-797 designation. For example, the I-797C is what most folks on VJ call NOA1 (Notice of Action).

The I-797 on its own means the petition/application been been approved.

The numerous types of Form I-797 issued by the USCIS has many functions:

The OP stated "I-797, " which is "Issued when an application or petition is approved."
