Hello Fellows, this is my first post here on VJ.com,i am gaining lot of invaluable knowledge via this amazing place.i have a question for all the senior members and people who are on the same boat as myself. i am a beneficiary married to a USC and currently on a B1/B2 (in status),we did the concurrent filing of AOS a few days back and our PACKET was received at chicago on saturday AUG 25,2012 . my question is that i have not undergone any medical exam as yet and neither do i have any past immunization record.i have done a little bit of research , called a few authorized civil surgeons near my area(i live in a rural part of IL ),the nearest three surgeons are 2 hours from me and are asking different fee from $220 to $370.seriously ? ? now for the required immunization i have been looking the CDC web but not been able to know that what particular shots that i want(28 years).also , is it appropriate/cost effective,if i decide to go the local county health clinic to get all the required shots and than presenting the civil surgeon with my updated immunization record ? lastly , i would strongly condemn this unfair trade practice being conducted on civil surgeons part.they all are charging different amount of money for the Full medical exam,i have a masters in engineering and currently unemployed(waiting for my EAD.i cannot afford all this.i came across this other forum in which people were crying for being charged as much as $850/head for a full medical exam. USCIS must regulate the fee for these money mongers so they cannot exploit and take advantage of ever vulnerable immigrants.i work hard for my money and would reprobate this practice. Also, i would appreciate some information from the fellow members regarding

1) if its ok if i send USCIS my medical report after we have petitioned for the AOS ?

2) what exact immunization shots do i require(for a Male/28 with no past medical record) ?

3) if anyone have rather went to the local health dept to get the shots?is it a good idea ? what they charge (i have no insurance)

4) your comments about these so called civil surgeons working as a gang ?

i hope you guys will take some interest in my post and give/share your invaluable comments/experiences. good luck and god bless

I agree that the USCIS should be more involved in the management of approved civil surgeons, rather than just approving them and leaving them to it. (I'm not sure that happens, but it wouldn't surprise me!)

My I-693 process cost me just over $600. I was charged $450 for the doctor to complete the paperwork and the physical aspect of it. I was then charged $110 for the hepatitis test and lab work. I then had to pay $40 to the local health department for some other shots I needed.

In my local area, the civil surgeons all belong to the same practice. I could have gone further afield, but I don't feel like I should have to shop around for what is a standard service. No doctor should do it different to another as they are following the same guideline.

So why the big variance across the states and country?

I agree with you totally...the shame is that USCIS begs to differ on this. Can't see the logical rationale behind this...I "only" payed $300 as an "entrance fee" basically as I have grown up here and got all my immunization here, so obviously I was not missing anything at all. The rest of the test (syphilis, gonorrhea, clamydia tests) were all done by my health insurance as here the civil surgeon basically just looked at those results, and filled the form out for $300!!! It was ridiculous! And I totally agree that USCIS should pay closer attention. I wish they did something about this...

All the best!

For what I read in this forum, when you apply for AOS you HAVE to send the medical part at the same time as a part of your package

2.- Vaccines...

Mumps/Measles/Rubella (MMR)

Polio

Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids/ Pertussis (TDaP)

Haemophilus influenzae type B (flu)

Hepatitis B

Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices

3.- With no insurance I'll recommend for you to research the county health Dep (for me in IL is County) It's def going to be cheaper than going to Walgreens and get it done without insurance (MMR and TDaP ONLY is $140)

4.- I agree, should be regulated. I paid $150 in Aurora, IL + $100 for labs that ended up a waste of money since I ended up needing the MMR anyways

I got the NOAs on the mail on friday and also the Biometrics appt.

BTW I made a mistake and copy paste the wrong link...

When adjusting status and filling a 485 you need to include your medical examination report unless you are a refugee..

Maybe you get an RFE (request for evidence)

If you do not enclose your sealed I-693 medical examination in your initial AoS packet then you will receive an RFE for it.

If you do not send your I-693 in before the date specified on your RFE then your application will be denied.
