The greencard usually takes about 30 days to arrive....so should be there soon.

I don't think your mom will qualify for medical or pension....Did she pay into Medicaid or a pension plan?

Please explain to you MOM, that she is not entitled to any free benefits, no free medical, no pension. All of your MOM's needs must be provided for by her family, or the person who signed the 864 financial form.

Your mother should have been made aware of this before she was up-rooted from her home.

Your mother can call USCIS to inquire about her green card. There is an 1-800 number listed on their website.

Who sponsored your Mother?

The correct responds has been given to you. Pension, is a fund that you pay into, what fund has your MOM paid into.

Medicaid - LPR do not qualify for, unless the care is an Medical Emergency. The state can sue you for an benefits that they give to your MOM for free since you sign the 864 stating that you would be responsible for your MOM.

If you require more information, feel free to contact your state social service programs.

IF there was free care being given out, we wouldn't be having this great federal debate about health care for USC that has been in the news for the last 8 years.

This link may help explain it. Unless she has worked and paid into the system then she cannot expect to get anything out.

i was unable to get health insurance for my father b/c he's over 65 yrs. very few companies will insure him and premium is absurd. So it made sense for me to pay out of pocket for doc visits and med. Also per my advise they had check up done before coming here and they brought med to last them at least a year.

there's some subsidized health facilities that will bill you only a portion depending on ur income. Keep in my they may send a bill for those subsidized portion depending where it's coming from (federal/state gov).

My father is also looking for work with health benefit. So if ur mother is active enough to work then that will be anotther option.

Where is he going to get a job with health benefits over the age of 65 and as a new immigrant with a presumably limited understanding of English?

Once she has been a permanent resident for five years then she can PAY for Medicare coverage. It's not cheap, but it's a lot less expensive than private health insurance.

She will never be eligible for Social Security retirement benefits. She would have needed to work 10 years and paid into the system in order to be eligible.

SSI is a possibility, but she won't be eligible until she's been a permanent resident for five years. If she collects SSI, or any other means tested public benefit, while the affidavit of support is still enforceable then the US government can come after you for reimbursement. When you signed the I-864 you promised the US government that the taxpayers of the US would not be supporting your mother. She hasn't earned any benefits in the US, so you have to support her.

If she becomes a US citizen in five years then you're off the hook for the affidavit of support, and she can apply for means tested public benefits.

You really should have worked this out before you brought your mother to the US. Your friends were wrong.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Both my parents are very proficient in English. But being 65+ yrs has been a problem to find work especially that will offer health benefit. Also not having any driving skills limits to only bus/train route. So at the moment i don't know where or how.

Also some states are very liberal and they have health centers that will not even ask for her immigration status. But they will ask you for your immigration status and proof on income. Texas is definately not one of them. They only cover basic routine check ups such as blood tests, x-ray etc.. but you are liable for the med or any major procedures. you can sign up for discounted generic drug program.

What sort of jobs are they looking for?

What is their skill set, what did they do in their home country, what plans did they have for a new life in the US?

well, both of them were teachers but they will need certification to get into any ISD. and it doesn't make sense for them to go through certification just for the health insurance. They don't intend to stay here but to visit me. But the damn embassy won't let them come in with a tourist visa b/c i'm a US citizen. I will support them as long as they are here. but it would be nice to have a health coverage just in case. Light work, anything that doesn't require heavy lifting or being on the run.
