Ex-Taliban spokesman attends Yale

This is the guy who appeared in Farenheit 9/11. Here is a quote:

"Rahmatullah applied for a visa at the United States Consulate in Peshawar in July 2004. With his Taliban-era paperwork, he was referred to the embassy in Islamabad, but within a couple of weeks he received a B2 prospective-student visa. At the end of October he flew to New York. Not knowing how long he would have to wait for the Yale interview, he had arranged to stay with an Afghan family on Long Island."

You'd think US Embassy, Islamabad would be a little harder on an ex-Taliban but apparently not. Makes me wonder why some VJ members going through Islamabad are on AR yet this guy gets his visa in a month. Fascinating article nevertheless.

How is this guys affording Yale?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Just finished reading that article. Fascinating. The guy definately deserves the visa and the opportunity he's gotten.

Most people would recognize him as the Taliban in Fahrenheit 911, the guy who told the woman questioning him "your husband must find you very difficult". Clearly, the man was just parroting the Taliban party line. What you learn from the article is when he got back, he asks his superiors why there are no girls' schools and he's told to shut up. He was a Taliban cause it was a decent career decision at the time. He didn't like it, and endured what he had to. He's not an extremist, he's tolerant & curious & friendly. He's a good guy.

As for the speed of receiving his visa, remember he applied for a non-immigrant visa. Also he had received a visa (or visas) before, so it's likely the consulate already had background information about him.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
