Manila DENIES K1 co-sponsors

I had searched and read about Manila and co-sponsors and there never seemed to be any definite answer as to whether or not they accept them. Here is the definite response: NO. My fiance went today to his interview for a K1 visa and was told they do not accept co-sponsors for K1 visas. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer there for 3 years, came home last May, started working in July while attending nursing school. My income is below 125%. My mother has a significant income and properties totaling nearly $1 million. They would not accept the co sponsor. Now our dreams are crushed. We've been together 4 years, engaged over 14 months. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CO SPONSORS FOR K1 VISAS.

Go the Philippines and get marry. Your mother can be a Joint Sponsor on the I-864.

If you can't go through the K-1 door because you can't have a "co-sponsor," then go through the CR-1 door where a "co-sponsor" is allowed.

Yeah, just trying to clarify for everyone out there wondering about co-sponsors. It's one of those things that is constantly being tossed back and forth and nobody really knows. Every says "I've heard", so I thought I should offer first-hand proof that they do not accept co-sponsors, even under unique circumstances.

Really sorry to hear this Becky. It may mean more time apart but it's a delay not an end. Are you able to get time off and return to the Philippines anytime soon?

really? my fiance is planning to get her auntie to be his co-sponsor just for sure

but his income is on and no problem for supporting me and our baby as k2

Its not just about income. If you dont make the income requirements you can use your assests aswell.

May I know the income requirement needed? for k1 and k2?

i don't know about this. but our K1 visa was approved inspite we had a co-sponsor. i think this kind of thing is unique to every engaged couple. they would look into different angles and decide whether of not a co-sponsor is permissible or not.

I just went to the Philippines in March and I'm finishing a very intense accelerated nursing program at Hopkins right now so I definitely won't be able to go back to the Philippines before next August. Even if I could go there and we married, wouldn't it mean starting this horrible process all over again with a spouse visa, spending more money, and waiting another 9 months to possibly be denied again for financial reasons? Unfortunately, it seems that no option is a good option right now.

actually it is not really denial, call USEM ask them what you can do, usually they will say provide current sustained income or they're going to give a certain time usually a year so that you can work on meeting the required poverty guideline, it already happens in many of my friends now, one of them left to US last week, she was denied but her fiance called and USEM told them to provide current sustained income and new financial report that showing you meet the poverty guideline, her fiance includes some docs of his assets too

I'm really sorry Beckyo that your plans were screwed up by a CO that won't accept your cosponsor. It might look dark now, but its not the end of the line, just a delay.

The CO does not have to accept a cosponsor on a K-1, it is up to their discretion to accept a cosponsor regardless of the income and assets of the cosponsor. The CO is required to accept a cosponsor for a CR-1. If you need a cosponsor, its a ####### shoot in Manila on a K-1, some are allowed and some are not. But for the CR-1, the CO cannot deny based on using a cosponsor. The definite response is not "No, they do not accept cosponsors" because many K-1s have been approved using a cosponsor. The definitive response should be more like if you need a cosponsor and don't want to risk rejection of using one, go the CR-1 route because there is no guarantee they will accept one on a K-1.
