Bringing Mom and SIblings to America or Mom first??

Hello,

I recently became a US citizen and I need help with the followings:

1. How long will it for my parents to have a green card if I file for them? from start to finish.

2. Once my parents receive their green card, can they file for my siblings? How long will that take?

I heard that it could take up to 15 years to sponsor my siblings... so I thought about this alternative, I would file for my parents and then my parents would file for my siblings.

Please let me know.

Thank you and have a great weekend!!!!!

Timeline

Once you file, figure 9-11 Months for the entire process for your parents.

Depending on what country you are from, 10-15 years would likely be the time it would take for a sibling.

Assuming your sibling(s) are unmarried, once your parents get their green card, it may only take 8 years for the process when they file.

Bottom line, waiting for your parents to petition your sigblings is likely to be a little quicker.

We are the poster children for chain migration!

Thank you all for your candid feedbacks: I'm french, my siblings range from 14 to 24 and they are single. I'm trying to find the quickest way for them to benefit from my citizenship and please let me know what's the best and quickest way for them. I have 2 siblings in the US already on student visas and they would like to stay here and work... With the student visa that will be very hard... So please help me out with your advise. Thanks very much

I forgot to mention that my parents do not need the green card because they can come to the states whenever they want without visa... The reason I wanted to petition for them was to expedite for my siblings... Thanks again

The keys are , where are you from, how old are your siblings and if adults are they single ?

Parents can petition for children faster than a citizen can petition for siblings.

You petitioning for siblings takes around 11 years for the GC interview.

You can petition for your parents and the young ones can come as part of their process. Your parents as CG holders can petition for the others. That would be quicker than the 11 years. They won't all get visas at the same time.

Not quite right, children do NOT come as part of a petition for a parent. Your parents could come but the children would need separate petions. Usually what people do is petition one parent, leaving the other to take care of the kids and then the arriving parent petitions spouse and kids.

Parent petition about 1 year

Sibling petition about 11 years

Parent petitioning spouse or child( under 21) as an LPR about 3 years.

Parent petitioning single adult child as LPR about 8 years

No petition for parent to married adult child ( and open one for single adult dies with marriage)

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thanks again y'all!!!

1. 1 year for parents? Do they have to spend the whole 1 year in the states? If not How long will they stay here?

.

2. I guess the only siblings that can benefit would be the 14 year old, the 18 year old will turn 21 by the time

Thanks

The "one year" is how long it's going to take to petition your parents. Then you need to add the time for how long it's going to take to petition the children.

The 14 y/o will be 15/16 by the time your parent is here. Then after your parent petition it'll take around 3 years for that child to get to the US. 8 years for the ones older than 21. Your parent will need to remain in the US during this time and maintain their LPR status. So they'll be in the US for several years. They can visit their home country but they need to spend more time in the US then out of it or they'll lose their GC.

Don't forget they will need to sponsor the kids, or you will, so look at how many people you're planning on sponsoring. Your household size plus your parent, plus each child. That's a lot of money.

Thank you again!!!! yall are such darls!!!!! I don't what I would do without my Visajourney pals!!!

I conclude from all of these candid feedbacks that my journey on helping my siblings will not start... because it will be a nightmare!!! I guess my citizenship will only benefit me :( My sister that’s already in the States will just have to find a job in the US (which I heard is almost impossible) after graduating if not go back to France… I wish I could help but….

Thanks again!
