lamented? only if you have multiple photos of the 12 humans doing the lamenting.

It's a cultural ceremony, so if it's important for your husband's culture, then by all means show a series of photos about this ceremony.

FWIW, lamenting about a marriage certificate is rarely done in Nigeria.

Tunisia and Turkey and Libya still do this ceremony, IIRC.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Maybe he means laminated? He mentioned about it getting worn out.

time to slow down a bit. Don't pay anything else till the two casefiles are joined up.

you want the casefiles to be joined up at NVC.

Have yer USCitizen Spouse call in to NVC, and ask for 'AOS FEE BILL' on the son's casefile.

Keep asking for that, until it arrives in his email inbox. Call every two days until it shows up. Don't pay it, but then..

call into NVC again, ask for the casefiles to be joined up.

Once they are joined up - the son's AOS fee bill is waived (yer USCitizen Spouse will see that in the online payment portal, after the casefiles are joined up)

and at some point , get the DS-3032 for the son into NVC.

WHEN the son's IV fee bill shows up, pay both IV fee bills, as by then - the casefiles are joined up.

Why is this important? You want the casefiles to be joined up, as

I was wondering if getting my marriage certificate lamented is allowed? Its already getting worned and I worry about it when I have to send off to NVC. Anyone ever did this or is it a big no no?

Gosh I am so sorry after reading Darnell's reply I was like huh (reading it in my email on hotmail).

Yes I meant laminated as in encased in a plastic cover permanent to preserve and keep it funky fresh. Or do they (NVC and embassy not like that.

Sorry for the misdirect I seem to be doing that a lot lately.

Saylin - I need your advice.

I have just realized that we didn't put our income on all three lines for the question regarding income for the past three years on the I864. :bonk: Is this going to guarantee us another checklist?

Also I am sending an express package with my divorce decree in it tomorrow, should I send an amended I864 Pre-empting the checklist? Or wait for them to send the letter and barcoded cover sheet?

Please let me know ASAP.

Thanks

dwheels76 I do not know how NVC treats laminated documents but I do know for a fact that the embassies in Nigeria do not accept laminated documents as originals. So, I will advise you simply wait until you scale through NVC and the embassy before laminating. I know of a senior colleague - I am a lawyer by the way - who in ignorance laminated her marriage certificate and when she got to the embassy the certificate was rejected. She had to obtain a certified true copy (CTC) at the Marriage Registry where the marriage ceremony was contracted and the CTC is what she has been using ever since.

Yeah, if you didn't fill in those three lines, you'll most likely get a checklist.

You could send it in with your divorce decree. Just mention in a cover letter why you're sending it in (you realised an error in your submitted I-864 and want to send in a corrected one now).

dwheels - i knew you meant 'laminated' .

I had been storing up a 'lamented ceremony' story for some time. Thank you for helping me to trigger it, and put it here.

I KNOW !

I REMEMBER !!!

Me, and a coupla others here, tried to tell you about casefile joining.

I guess it all got lost in the big 290-posts-a-day thread.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

So, use a telephone on Tuesday, and ask NVC Supervisor to join up the casefiles.

No, you won't get a refund of that 2nd 88 bucks you paid, sorry.
