That's...horrible! I'm so sorry. Are they going to make you pay for it as well?

This infuriates me. We are not allowed to open the medical in order to make copies, and then if they lose it, its our responsibility to replace it! Not to mention the financial burden of another medical.

Indeed. I sure hope they don't give me the same spill! Maybe this is their way of getting extra time? The whole thing just stinks. I'd be raising the roof with someone.

Call the doctor/surgeon up who originally did your medical, ask if they have a copy. Sometimes they do and it would be a bunch cheaper if possible.

AM sorry you got RFE'd, especially for something like this.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

That is so so wrong. They take it when you come in the country, then if they loose it and you have to pay to replace it.

Someone here on the forum had that happen a while ago. They had their congressman (or senator?) look into it and it turned out it was in a different folder (they apparently keep one with copies and one with the original application but don't quote me on that). At any rate their rep put pressure on and they found the medical again and didn't have to go through another medical. Hope this info is helpful...

If adjusting from a K-1, wouldn't they already have a copy from the I-129F? I know they give a copy to the beneficiary in the sealed envelope, but is that seriously the only copy? I would think they'd need it to approve the initial petition. So, I guess what I'm saying is...wouldn't there already be 2 copies?

It really is a wonder sometimes how they manage anything with all this paperwork. In a modern paperless society...why are they still depending largely on paper instead of electronic media? Even just allowing people to fax information or scanned forms would be very helpful. That way it would already be electronic and they could store it that way. Then again they'd probably accidentally delete it, haha.

When we got ours finished up by the civil surgeon at the hospital, they gave us another sealed copy and told us to guard it with our life. Apparently this happens a lot. Really awful, and they must have known it was missing long ago, couldn't they let you know? Geez.

We just visited our Congressman again and his aide is going to see what can be found. What's interesting is that they also asked for some other info that was submitted with the I-129F. We couldn't have gotten the K-1 without it and now they want it again? Gee...

You're not making me feel any better about this. I'm waiting for my RFE, haha. How bad is their filing system if they can't find forms you submitted with the I-129F? Also, isn't most of the information already included in the I-485, just in a different manner? I mean, unless they want the USC info, but that doesn't make a lot of sense...

One of the things they are asking for is for me to prove my US citizenship. I sent that info with the I-129F stuff...

Our case was transferred back in January and we found out today that our case had been approved and that the Green Card is in the mail. We had originally filed in early December, didn't have an interview or any issues, just a slower than expected process, which isn't really unexpected when it comes to the US government. Hope more people who had their cases transferred who are still waiting get theirs approved soon as well.
