So, have at it then! What do you wish you had known before you got to the grand old land of America?

Not about the US, but for this process:

To not accidentally soak important documents (passport and i94) in spray on Sunblock

To realize that accidents happen, and to make copies of document I have!

That the USCIS don't seem to have a way of cross checking using entry numbers :|

I honestly can't think of anything that really took me by surprise.

Perhaps the only thing I wish I'd have known is the different names for certain things - i.e. knowing that we'd call cilantro coriander, or shortening lard; would've made following some recipes a lot easier!

Toiletries are way different, especially toilet paper/tissue...

They don't seem to have good old Back Bacon here, nearest thing to it is Canadian Bacon.

Bread is way different too, but fortunately I work onsite at a company with a large British contingent and they get fresh bread made without copious amounts of High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Lastly, NY is so similar to London that it isn't even funny. I haven't felt any pangs of homesickness.

People put that cr*p in everything!!! Most of the things I love in Canada have been ruined with that ingredient down here :/.

Instant greencard so instant ability to work, travel and feel "normal". Can't usually (in many states) get a drivers licence on the K1 till you get your EAD or GC 'cause the I-94 isn't valid for long enough...

That said... i'm glad I didn't spend close to a year away from my HUSBAND and instead just away from my fiance.
