Hello all

I have recently joined this site and wow! What a lot of information! My fiancé is in the Philippines and I’m an America. We have met several times and have lots of documentation of the relationship. My question is which route is the quickest way for her to come to the United States. Should we use either a fiancé visa or a marriage visa? I would like her to marry her in her country but I’m not sure I would be able to leave my wife behind for months. Any feedback would be helpful.

A K1 fiance Visa is generally quicker than a marriage visa in terms of processing.

Based on the timelines here on the VJ site, of real people actually going through the process, it looks like Fiance visas are normally 1-3 months faster than spousal visas. I am doing a Fiance visa myself.

HOWEVER,

Spouse visas come with a green card upon entry into the US,

Spousal visas are less expensive as a total process compared to Fiance visas,

Spousal visas as a total process are faster as far as getting permanent residence and citizenship.

If the only concern is getting her to the US fast without going one more time to the Philippines, do the K-1 Fiance visa. If speed isn't the only criteria you might consider the spousal visa. In your case it sounds like getting married in the Philippines is important and it sounds like you are able to travel there again to do that.

Both have their pluses, but speed is generally a plus of the fiance visa over the spouse.

If getting her here quickly AND marrying there are both important, what about doing the K-1 (which seems to be faster, from what everyone is saying), and then later having a wedding ceremony in her country so her family can attend?

- went together for interview; file isn't there - need to wait to be rescheduled

Jan 2011 - went for Infopass

25 Feb 2011 - interview

19 April 2011 - Infopass

8 July 2011 - HE'S FINALLY A CITIZEN - WOO HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

30 July 2011 - citizenship party

If you want to marry her in her country the spousal visa is your only option. The K-1 stipulates that you MUST marry in the US
