Hi all fellow Brits. Just a quick find - I have been paying over $2 for Heinz beans in Kroger and recently tried their own brand 'Vegetarian Beans' $0.63 a tin. Taste like any tin of British supermarket baked beans! Happy days! Although my wife doesn't think me eating too many beans will make her happy!

No - I know what you mean. Heinz tom soup with grated cheddar (Costco do a very good Irish cheddar) and Worcestershire sauce is the ultimate 'poorly' food! They do sell it in Kroger for about $2.50 a tin.

On the beans subject I love mine cold on a jacket potato with cheddar - the yanks look at me like I am mad!

Just as a FYI (for your information) we in the US have many different brands of Tomato soup - just do as my Norwegian husband did.. buy 1 can of each brand - try it and see if you like it. I would think that Campbell's Tomato soup may be the brand you are looking for. He savors the flavor of "Bean and Bacon" soup. -- anything with 'Beans' is like waiting for chemical warfare to take place later on at night. haha

I've been eating a lot more of this the past wee while, Tesco had an offer on so I stocked up. Tomato soup and pasta is really good :)

The first time I'd heard of cold beans was from the Canadians. Apparently that's pretty popular as a side dish on the east coast when having potato salads and cold meat. I did the same as you until they made me try it. lol

If anyone is living/going to be living near the Canadian border you can pop across for grocery shopping. They have all the items you can't get here in the U.S.

I can understand cold beans with a cold dish, but on a hot jacket spud? Toast?

Give me mine nice 'n' hot, please :P

Hot on toast but cold on jackets!

Me too - my first game was 1979. If you get chance to sign up for Paltalk (free) go to rooms/sport/football and it's called VFE (virtual fratton end) basically people at home are on it and they broadcast the live radio commentary although after today wished I hadn't bothered. 3-1 and ref was dodgy as F*** as always!

I tried the Campbell's tomato soup, both the can and 'heat me up in the plastic cup' variety, it just isn't the same.

Oh, and with regards to the cold baked beans, that is the best way to have them! Cold beans on jacket potatoes are great, and so are cold beans on toast! The combination of hot and cold makes it even more satisfying. We also have cold beans with our salads. I think the only time we have them heated is when they are used in a hit mixture such as the mince in shepherd's pie or baked under mashed potato and grilled cheese!

I've tried almost all kinds of Tomato Soup here and it's just so ... different. I can't even tell you what it is that's wrong with it but I'll eat it with buttery or cheesey toast but I don't like to drink the remaining soup. Just doesn't taste right.

The problem with the soup may be the HFCS that is part of the ingredients here. Take a look at the list of ingredients on a whole host of foods that you wouldn't expect to include sweeteners in UK and you will find HFCS listed.

Sometimes you just have to look a bit harder to find something that you like.
