Am i in Trouble?

Hello fellow Vj members,

Have a great Sunday y'all. Okay i had submitted my N-400 application last week and i already received a text messge and an email from USCIS that they had received my application.

Now am freaking out coz in the form there was i think a question that asked if u owed any or some kind of tax that are overdue from the state or some kind of that thing.

Yesterday i received a letter in the mail telling me that i dont have any state tax refund cox they took out the tax i owed ( in the amount of $163 and still owe them $63). I did not know about owing them since we thought they already took this out of our income tax last year.

Now am freaking out coz it turned out we still owe $63.00 that i just learned yesterday. Am i gonna be in trouble for this?

Am really so worried if it will affect my N-400 application.

I really don't think your in trouble, I think your worrying to much about it, however take care if it.

I would suggest: Do Not write a Money Order, do Not send a personal Check. Go to your Bank and Send a Cashiers Check. You have a reciept and a Bank record.

Save the letters of Confusion. (about the owed balance)

Contact the IRS office near you to make arrangment for payment. Any form of payment will do. They accept personal checks all the time for example. Money orders as well. There is no need to pay for a certified check. It wouldnt be smart to bounce a check with the IRS anyway.

I think what the USCIS is referring to is outstanding tax debts from PAST years, not the current tax season. Simply pay what you owe in a traceable way (bank draft, online bill pay etc.) and you will be fine.

Don't stress over this, just pay it and have a record of doing so. A $63.00 recently arrived tax bill will not mean "trouble" for you, now a $63,000 tax bill -- time to stress.

Nothing to worry are freak out over, just pay the $63.00 you owe with a check of some sorts. Then make sure you keep a record of that, should it be needed at the time of the N-400 interview.

When you sent in your application, you didn't know you'd owe any money and IRS hadn't sent you a bill so YOU DID NOT LIE on the N-400. Besides that question of owing taxes does not include this tax season since you had till April 15th to file anyway. Don't lose sleep over this. You'll be fine.

Already got into big arguments with the IRS, can't even hire a person to write forms and instructions in plain English, very similar to some of the questions written on the N-400, can be taken either way. But in terms of them admitting they are wrong, they come back and say, you should have read page 7,986 of their 13,000 page tax code book to get the right answer, so you still have to pay that $63.00 or in our case, 50 bucks for one return. On one form, noted the next year, they changed the wording so it made more sense, pays to yell back. But as far as hurting yourself with the USCIS, didn't make any difference.

Every election they talk about simplifying the tax code, have something like 1,015 tax forms now, but every year, just gets even more complicated. In general, if you overpay by several thousand bucks, won't hear a word, but if you underpay by even a buck, you can expect to hear from them.

Go to nearest Walmart stores customer service desk. Use fast transfer payment method to pay IRS this amount. Hold on to the receipt. You should be doing this instead of having to talk about it on visa journey. Don't freak out though!

Is this from the most recent tax year of 2011? Relax you'll be fine, just pay what you owe and move on. Technically at the time you filed your N400 you were not aware of anything owing and this isn't a huge deal, it sounds like you've filed taxes, got a notice back and now you owe $63.00.
