Teacher tells student, "Go back to Mexico"

When cops are losing their jobs for pepper spraying protesters, they should at least give her an official reprimand.

An official reprimand, yes, but losing her job for what was an obvious (and regretted) mistake seems OTT. I'm not sure she should have told the child to go back to Mexico. Do we even know if the child is Mexican by birth, or a USC?

Send him over the border he will get plenty of brass and lead (I think that should make up the medal)...lol

That was funny...

I think the little brat would be happy to sit down and keep his mouth shut upon his return to a relatively safe environment.

I had the same question.

The teacher realizes her mistake. A letter in her file should probably be the extent of the punishment.

don't give a damn. he speaks english...so i assume he reads it just fine also.

he was being a smart a55 & got a smart a55 response in return. no reprimand needed

Agreed. She responded to the context of his statements, its not like she singled him out as hispanic etc.

Yes, it is SO funny to imagine living in a country where children are sent to a dangerous environment so they might be shot at as punishment for being a brat.

That sounds like my kind of America! kicking.gif

That comment was good for the humor, but of course in reality, no one would want a child to experience such.

I was done laughing at that comment, then you posted again.

Let me give you an example from the university I attended. It happened probably about 5 years after I graduated, so late 90s, maybe early 00s.

The dining hall was trying to come up with some new ideas for theme nights. There was a dining hall committee made up of students, dining hall staff and faculty who was in charge of vetting ideas. At a meeting, someone said, "How about a Korean night?" and a staff member blurted out, "What would that be, kimchi and dog?" He covered his mouth right after he said it, realising how that came out. One of the students present was Asian-American and raised a HUGE stink about it, calling on the university to fire him and getting the Asian Association to publish nasty letters to the college paper. This was a guy who had worked for dining services for years, had a family, and was a great worker but these myopic and spoiled students wanted him fired. Luckily the administration acknowledged that this was a mistake, that the guy had realised how insensitive it sounded, and his job was preserved. BUT the students succeeded in getting a note put in his file about this, which I (and a lot of alumni) thought was unfair.

I told this to my Korean-American boyfriend and he thought the staff member's comment was funny, btw.

Why do you think the teacher in the OP should have a note in her file; but you don't think this person at the university deserved one?

I thought we were past all this racism. I guess not. Thread reported.

I mean like ####### man? You might do better with the VJ FB crowd seeing how they think a lot like you in regards to censorship against anything they see as not being politically correct.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
