Interview - 221g form!

She's circled that my visa was refused, and also the bit that says I could overcome the refusal by submitting more documents, then on the back she's circled passport - the reason is that it was washed and isn't neat enough to put a visa in.

So is this good news? Or is there a chance they'll receive the new passport and be like, "Naaahh, still not approving you."?

Also, not to scare anyone, but I got GRILLED! For a few moments I thought I was poo out of luck. Reason was cos I spent 5 months in Mexico.

That is such a ridiculous reason. I got the 221g form too. My understanding is that you just need to satisfy the one requirement they have highlighted and then it should all be fine, they don't ask for another interview. If I were you I would make an appointment to do a same day passport renewal, it costs a bit more, but it's worth the time you save, then book in the courier to pick it up the next day, they have been pretty efficient once they have received the extra info but it's still a hassle couriering everything back and forth so get it all booked in. I have had two rounds of sending in info, both times they responded within 2 days of receiving the paperwork and as I was writing this the courier just delivered my passport WITH visa!!!!

I think that means you're visa is approved as soon as you provide them with a new passport! So congrats!

I'm sorry to hear that they grilled you, I can imagine that wasn't any fun. What did they ask you? Their focus is strange when they had to grill you for being in mexico for 5 months :bonk::)

Yes, they won't use a washed passport. Same thing happened to Rob and Jill (Scotand). That's all you need. If you can get a new passport today, then schedule the courier (by 6pm today) for Monday. How to schedule courier: http://www.thedx.co.uk/customerservice/dxgroupusembassy/passport-collections/

The Mexico grilling is about homeland security. Your DS-157 can trigger questions or additional processing if you've spent time in certain countries. Mexico has some drug cartels getting pretty violent along the border with the US, so I guess Mexico may be on "the list" like middle eastern countries due to security issues so they wanted to know where you were and why a British girl was in Mexico for so long.

I'm pretty sure it is just that singular issue about yer worn passport.

Get a new one, submit it in the manner they told you (verbally, written; was some instruction on how to submit)

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
