LingChe Shortcuts - Still Useful

Greetings to my virtual family.

I'm the original author of the LingChe NVC Shortcut Guide, and I wanted to know if they're still useful?

Are they being updated as new information becomes available, or as processes change?

My fear is, that if the document info becomes out of date, that it will cause more problems than good.

The whole purpose of the guide was to get families together faster. The last thing I want is for it to cause a problem.

Please give me your input, so I can decide if it's time to delete it.

Thanks,

LingLing (living happily ever after thanks to Visa Journey).

I used the guide and thought it was very useful in understanding the NVC process and getting all the requirements and everything done in a timely manner. This was in June 2011.

Thank you for writing that document, it was a great help, and I feel it is still useful today.

I've seen smatterings of posts in which people refer to your shortcuts with great favor, or recommend that others use them. You've apparently created a lasting, valuable process as a good deed, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Maybe a refresh update... some things are a little out of date like the whole barcode issue, and there are some tips that could be added. Great resource... we used them in conjunction with a few of the other guides and hope to finish up NVC in less than 21 days (even with a ridiculous RFE), as opposed to the 6-8 week timeframe they wanted up to accept. Thank you!

Ciao!

Thanks for the short cuts. We have found that both your shortcuts and James's shortcuts are both very useful! I'm not sure as to when they were last updated, and I notice just a few things between your and James's short cuts that could be fine-tuned, but even if they weren't they would be good for the foreseeable future. They are fine the way they are!..

Imagine doing this whole process in the days before the internet. Can you imagine the waiting, the guess work, no LingChe guides, no visajourney community and everything snail mail submissions. Imagine an RFE notice by snail mail (don't get me wrong I love snail mail personal letters and post cards).

thanks from all of us who ever ever once referenced your Guide! grazzie mille!

In case you are gathering updates: In some guides it gives a second street address (#32 with no suite number in stead of #31). This did cause some cofusion and we waited until the coversheet to see which address was correct. Links to the actual USCIS instructions, pdf, and NVC document requirements would be great - many people still seem so confused about that.

864 AOS instructions: I think now we can just send transcript 1 year + 2 more if helpful. This means we don't have to send any 1099, w-2, etc. Just the transcripts, which are free and can be ordered online or at local IRS office.

Also AOS: I think they pretty much ignore the beneficiary's assets from what I have heard. Sponsor's assets are valued at 1/5 unless they are spouse, then 1/3.

Thanks again, -M.

I would agree that an fine tuning update would be beneficial. Now there is form I-864EZ available which is for folks who are using their income as sole means of support, therefore more "easy" and straightforward. For example for the pending AOS, we will submit the 864EZ and 2 years of free IRS transcripts and 6 months of recent paystubs. Should be sufficient (hopefully)...

Super awesome, thank you so so much!!

*The information about paying the IV bill is a bit out of date: you can pay it whenever it appears, as an NVC operator told me.

*The coversheet you get from either bill works for both, again confirmed by the NVC.

*Also, the bills appeared with the emails. It wasn't like I could see the bill but didn't get contacted for a few days.

*My IID was created a good week, maybe 9 days before receiving the AOS bill and I got it from an operator.

Hope that helps!!

I also think that the following is a reasonable strategy for the DS-3032:

When you get your case number send the email. The email will either be accepted (you win) or denied (you resend). This can't slow down your process as long as you wait for a rejection each time. There were a lot of us who did this (see csc to nvc delay or something like that) and it worked for all of us.
