False positives for syphilis are quite common especially with certain conditions ie: lupus(SLE)and anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome. Something to keep in mind for the future and to let doctors know. Glad it turned out to be a false positive!!

Another reason just to get a second opinion - false negatives and false positives do happen. It could be the clinic participating in some sort of fraud hoping to get some more money out of it to 'fix' things - or it could be an honest false positive. A second test from a different provider will provide you with more information. There is a second, more specific and more accurate test they can use to verify if the first positive is indeed a real positive. If it too comes back positive, then you deal with the situation, get her treated - and definitely get yourself tested and treated if necessary. If it comes back negative - then depending on the type of test it was, you may even need a third test to verify which result is accurate, or if it is the more accurate recommended test, then that would most likely be accepted as the true result. Hopefully it is something as simple - albeit very frustrating and annoying - as a false test result.

Good luck to the two of you. Have your wife focus on the positive aspects of your relationship, especially with the interview coming up. Having this hanging over her head will be nerve-wracking but it is important that she handle the interview well. There are other considerations in addition to the medical one that she needs to be ready to address and she doesn't want to come in worrying about negative medical results - especially when it can be treated if it does exist.

You mentioned in your other thread that you had both been sick recently. One of the conditions that can lead to a false positive on a syphyllis test is malaria. There are others that are not as common, but it is definitely worth considering:

I absolutely know this to be a fact as well..

I am a nurse and have seen many false positives. Sometimes, they will come back positive over and over, even after treatment.

YEAH YEAH YEAH....THANK GOD...the hospital just called and the medical test result came back clean No Sphilis or anything else. Freaking stress me and my wife for 3 days.

in 2 hours we have to pick up the result and then at 12:30pm we have to turn in our intake document as well. the timing are so close.

now we have to stress out the interview, but i don't think she will stress way less then the medical issue.

I just now read your post about your wife's false-positive on her blood work. My fiancee had the same scare a couple of weeks ago. It was at the Guangzhou United Family Clinic where they didn't have the right equipment to do a complete test. It was a Saturday, and we had to wait till Monday for them to send the blood out to another lab for testing. We didn't get the result till Tuesday Morning, which was her interview day.

The clinic also told us that they contacted the consulate to have our interview rescheduled. We didn't buy that, especially after consulting the other approved facility. So I went to the consulate's ACS hours before her document in-take on Monday and was told my fiancee could proceed to turn in documents and be interviewed without medical report.

I feel it is important for people to know that although the Guangzhou United Family Clinic looks cleaner and opens on weekends for convenience, just be prepared to spend an extra 2 or 3 days for the final results. In the meantime, do not torture yourselves for 4 days thinking your loved ones have the disease while waiting for the results.
