Cheap phone calls to the UK ?

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone knows of the cheapest way to make phone calls to a land line in the UK?

It can not be by Skype or similar, because my husband needs to phone his aging father who says "he's too old to learn computer stuff."

Thanks for any suggestions.

We bought an International Calling Card...not sure it is the cheapest but it is a lot cheaper than whatever Verizon had going.

Check out Vonage, they have 80 countries that are included as part of the package and pretty reasonable $25 bucks a month for unlimited calling.

Me and my wife used a company called rebtel its 1c a minute to a uk landline number you put $10 in the account and they will give you a local number to call that will be diverted to the uk number

I actually use skype to call my parents phone. It costs me 6.99 per month for unlimited. They even have an option of " to go" number which when set up allowes you to call from your cell or home phone to your parents for no extra charge.

I have Vonage and was able to keep the same house phone number and we just moved and we kept our same number and I call my daughters in Australia its $29.99 a month plus taxes lol so 36 a month and can call whenever you want for as long and the reception is great with the calls.

Hi I changed my cell phone provider to Metro Pcs. I get free international landline calls. If you have it in your area...its definitely a great route!!!!

Can't you get a smart phone for him in UK. Then dowload skype. I use it on my iPhone all the time and it's free

To phone to the UK I would use Skype. I last topped up my Skype account over a year ago with 10 euros... I phone my parents for 40+ mins once or twice a month, and I've only just used up my credit! I have it on my mobile, and use it to call their landline.

I bought my parents a Skype phone from Amazon - it works the same as a landline phone to them - takes incoming landline calls from their existing landline number but when i ring from abroad I use skype but they answer it as a normal call on the same phone.

Not sure I've given the best description but it does work really well

We have UK Vonage same as Karen that I quoted above. But when my husband moved here, he brought his Vonage box with him and plugged into our router. It's a UK number so his friends and family can call him easily/cheaply---just dial an Oxford number but it rings in Texas.

There is a free feature where it is set up to ring his mobile at the same time. If we're out, he doesn't miss calls from his kids. And we can use it to make unlimited calls to UK landline numbers. That might be a option so the OP's Dad could call the US cheaply too with no extra dial round numbers or a computer. My husband has a UK bank account still, and the £7.99/mo. is automatically paid out of that account. Vonage uses any landline phone you want...no special phone equipment.

There is a "UK only" plan for £5.99/mo. that would work too (still use it in the US), but you can't simul-ring a US mobile phone because that would be calling a US phone, and not included in the "UK only" plan.
