AJ for USCIS director. You want VSC or CSC?

AJ's too busy baiting peeps with his wisecracks to be a director.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I used a K-1 visa but had known my fiance 14 years at that point, lived together, had a mortgage, joint assets etc.

I do think it's slightly crazy that people get married/K-1s who have only physically been together for a week or so, but that's me.

It's marriage! If you don't have a stable income you are doomed. Let's make it 6 figures...I qualify and so do most successful marriages.

Aren't you special. Do people have to be 50 years old or older too?

AOS for my husband

It's absurd that in this day and age that visas would still be granted based on infatiation. No more K-1 visas! If an American citizen can't or won't or refuses to take the time and expense to marry a person in a foreign land then no visa should be granted. Furthermore, if any financial means is needed outside of the USC's income then no visa should be granted. Life is tough, suck it up.

Bite me! You also have the wrong website to show off the lack of cleanliness in your nether regions.

While I understand the sentiment about co-sponsors, sometimes it's technically necessary. For example, my ex and I did DCF for a CR1 visa through the London Embassy. I had no US-based income because I had lived in the UK for 12 years. We needed a co-sponsor because none of my UK-based income could be considered, even though I made way more than what was necessary. It's ridiculous to force a USC to move back to the US without his or her spouse just to get US-based income.

I never knew they only counted US income. Thats screwed up if you ask me. Do they still have that rule ?

Here's my shoes. Walk a mile in 'em.

The day somebody judges you for marrying a foreign spouse you might say the same to them. Or simply not care. Good for you if you think you did the right thing by marrying abroad and have a 6+ figure income but luckily, I'm not here to judge that nor your marriage. I'm here for solid information.

Agreed that K1 have some flaws but it's not an exception. As a matter of fact, the cr-1 costs less and the foreign spouse is secured a greencard almost from day one entering the states and then you have the 10 years of being on the hook for i-864 if your spouse decides to marry you only to gain access to a greencard. Almost anybody can marry on their first meeting just so you know, whether it's in or outside US.

Yes they do. You can imagine how thrilled my mom was when the ex and I split and she was still on the hook for the I-864. Soon to be a moot point though, as he'll be eligible for citizenship (under the 5 year rule) next year and he wants to naturalise ASAP.

I thought meeting in person is a requirement for granting k1 or IR1 visas

That said, the other side of the coin...

We let people from quite a few countries come here with no visa whatsoever. A K-1 does not grant anything except a 90 day visit. What is the problem? There can be no AOS without a marriage, so no real benefit is granted without a commitment. As far as income requirements, there should be NONE. Why should there be? Simply make family visa immigrants ineleigible for any public means tested benefits until they are citizens. Job Done. The income requirements have nothing to do with whether you can actually support anyone anyway. They are about being able to collect means tested benefits if they are granted. Simply eliminate the possibility and that is that. I really do not care if you want to live under a bridge with your foreign wife. Have at it.

I am a US citizen, I have a right to marry anyone I want from anywhere I want and you do not have to like it. The government has an obligation to protect you from my choice and needs to be assured that my choice for a spouse is of no threat to anyone else and that she will not cost you tax dollars. Other than that, it should be no one's business but my own.

VERMONT! I Reject Your Reality...and Substitute My Own!
