{grabbing my crotch}

"The Expendables"

Naturally Sly was the Alpha dog in this one, but I didn't figure on Jason Statham as his sidekick.

This pleased me very much as I have been a fan of Jason's for a long time, especially in his

roles in the Guy Ritchie flicks "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," "Revolver" and "Snatch."

This movie was punch, kick blast, bomb, yell, get dirty, etc. but naturally all of this was in the name of a higher good.

It's definitely not Shakespeare but if you're in the mood for action it delivers.

Although Mickey Rourke was not in the thick of the action for the most part, he played a solid role.

Arnold was strictly comic relief: "I think he wants to be president...yada yada yada yada"

Not exactly the last one I saw, but it was very recent.

"You Don't Know Jack" - w/Al Pacino

I'm sure lots of folks were turned away because of the subject matter,

but Pacino was masterful.

'Still Walking', 2008, dir: Hirokazu Koreeda

A family reunites on a peaceful summer's day to mark the anniversary of its eldest son's death. It's a really lovely, tranquil film, with a wonderful, shrewdly observed minimalism to it – the drama scrupulously framed by those idiosyncratic, long-established boundaries of communication so characteristic of family. Its teasing out of deep-seated, simmering frictions from within those confines effects an enthralling laconicism and surmises a beautiful and accurate portrait.

Has been compared with Ozu, whose work I'm unfamiliar with, so I'm motivated to get started with 'Tokyo Story' (the most frequent article of comparison). Koreeda also did 'Nobody Knows' back in 2004, which I haven't seen but a friend tells me is excellent - quite want to check that out too (a few token Kurosawas and Miyazakis aside, I'm a bit rubbish on Japanese cinema).

My Name is Khan a foreign film about an Indian Muslim who has asperger's. It's a great film with tragedy, laughter a love story just great. Anyone else heard of it or watched it? Available on Netflix,

Kamran got this from Netflix. We did not like it. We couldn't even finish watching it.

Last night we finished the

One of the questions raised in the extra materials discussion was that

many viewers had preconceived notions of "rules" for time travel, i.e.

that a 2nd iteration of an individual would not be possible. This movie

featured 2 second iterations (Henry and his daughter) as well as

Henry traveling to meet his family in the future after his death.

It was a good movie, not the best I've seen, but I concur that the movie's

attraction was in the relationships, not the futuristic/science fiction aspects.

{edit} Brad Pitt was among the producers.

One personal observation was that Eric Bana is such a good actor that

he absolutely nailed the American accent, although he is Australian.

Mel Gibson gives his Aussie accent away more consipicuously.

Just Finished Lady Vengence (sp?) But watched it twice, 2nd time with director's voiceover - was really a different experience.

Gonna pop in 'My Mother is a Belly Dancer' sometime this week.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

No Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman on the flight back to India. I actually liked it more than I thought I would.
