After waiting 6 months and one day since we received our NOA1 lo and behold today advice that we were being sent a RFE. What I fail to understand is that Vermont have had our application for over 6 months you would think that during that time they could have advised us earlier if there was a problem with the documentation. We do not anticipate a rejection but this only delays the issue by probably another 2/4 weeks.

RFE's are frustrating, I am in the process of a very "rare" one myself right now. Good luck to you and I hope everything goes well!

Keep in mind that the big chunk of that 6 months is spent dealing with the cases that are in line before yours. It's not like they went through your petition when they received it and then set it aside for six months before sending an RFE. On the plus side, depending on what the RFE is for and how easy it is to get the information, it isn't a big delay. We got the RFE notice and a few days later received the leter in the mail. Next day I over nighted the info back and within 4 days our petition was approved. From receiving the email to approval was about 7 or 8 days. Stay positive, you're getting close to the end of this step

Im sorry about that. We got one RFE too after 5 months, ugh!!! I know how frustating that is, but hopefully it's something simple to get fixed. I have been watching Igor's LIst and noticed that California approved some cases after the couples had received their RFE's in such a short time. Vermont is not the same, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I'm just hoping they will approve us quick. We can't change our wedding date again!!!!

Wish you guys the best!

Yeah, unfortunately there's no process to make sure all of your documents are correct/present at the point they receive your packet. So your packet sits on a shelf for 5-6 months, and then somebody finally looks at it. If you're missing something, or something is incorrect, it's only at that point that they notify you with an RFE. Fortunately, as you say, it's only a couple week delay. Just send what needs to be sent, and then once your case is approved your head is going to swim at how fast it moves after that. Hang in there! :)

“Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life’s cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous half-possession. That which each can do best, none but his Maker can teach him.” — Emerson

we got noa2 yesterday. we also got a RFE after exactly 6 months. but it was something that was easy to "fix" (even though it was Vermont's fault). it's so annoying sitting here and waiting for the Noa2, and then it takes them 6 months to find out that something is missing, but stay positive, you will get the noa2 shortly after you send in the documents they are asking for. jah just stay positive and think you are getting closer to the end of this long process.

The majority of RFE's are issued by the adjudicator who works on your petition. An adjudicator doesn't pull your petition to work on it until the box it's in is the next one in line. In other words, your petition sat in a box for six months waiting while adjudicators were working on petitions that were received before yours. Once they finally worked their way up to your petition they determined that some additional evidence was needed before a decision could be made, so they sent the RFE.

The good news is that this means an adjudicator now has your petition, and will resume working on it when they receive a response to the RFE. Assuming there's nothing else to hold up your petition, you should receive a decision within weeks of sending the RFE response.

Just read your post, found it most helpful, we are now in the same situation awaiting our NOA2 having forgotten to answer 1 question on our application we recieved our RFE 19th April after 5 months. Having read your post makes it a liittle more comforthing to know that there will be light at the end of this journey.

There are a few questions on my post which i am hoping to answers to if you can help i would be most grateful.

I got an RFE at 6.5 months. I get angry just thinking about it. What was it for? They wanted me to send in a passport photo of myself. I sent in passport photos of myself with the original application. I don't understand. If my petition just sat in a box for six months, where did the original passport photos go? Did they fall out when the packet was shifted (although they were in an envelope and stapled to a paper in the packet?)

It is beyond frustrating. I sent in the response a week and a half ago and they haven't even sent me notice of receiving it yet, even though I know they did b/c I got delivery confirmation the day after I sent it. I am ashamed to be a US citizen when I look and see how broken our immigration system is. I am this close to just throwing my hands up in disgust and moving back to Mexico with my fiance.
