Lately I am seeing a LOAD of posts in this forum that have WRONG answers.

When someone asks a question, do the OP and yourself a favor before you hit the reply button and DON'T answer unless you are certain. Don't offer opinions either. Saying 'this should work' or 'I think' is not a good answer.

It'd also be a really good idea to pay attention to the consulate of the OP. What works in one country doesn't always work in another. Something you will find even more IMPORTANT as you get to the consulate phase of this process. So learn to curb your urge to post NOW.

Flame away if you like. But this community is a BIG resource for self-help petitioners and beneficiaries. You can slow someone else's case down or possibly cause them a denial with post-boosting incorrect answers.

I know some of you are well intentioned. But seriously, think before you post. Don't play games with other peoples lives.

I'm pretty new to this site and it's helped me tremendously. I think I pretty much agree with you that people should think before they post, but I also think most people sort of take replies with a grain of salt. I know I'll post and see what the majority of replies suggest, or just use them as a starting point. I don't take much as 100% true, like AussieWench's disclaimer says, she's not a lawyer, just a researcher, you know?

Do others agree?

Nope, i do not agree! Now for those of us related....strongly related to Bill....Bill Maher....yes that works because we simply raise one eyebrow...the Rock style and dig deeper but thats us.....

Then there are those who may not even be members, who are simply surfing and do not understand how to navigate the VJ site. Some may see answers...especially those posted with underlying definite tones, and simply take those answers as the truth.

A disclaimer helps or an indication that suggests to those kind of people to cross-check becomes even more important.

We shouldnt discourage those who post answers because they may not be 100% accurate since some issues seem to be constantly changing but we should, we must, add notes of caution when we are not close to 100% certain about some answers......

Actually, neither death nor taxes are certain. Likely maybe, but not certain. "I think therefore I am"? Hmmm . . . pretty sure about that one, though. I would say the admonition to be careful is just as appropriate for the reader as the one who posts. Everyone who posts, posts an opinion. Does that need to be said? Personally, I have found many opionions expressed here to be helpful. You just have to realize that they are opinions, and so take them as such.

I agree that a certain amount of discretion should be exercised in providing advice, unless it has been researched, or is known to be accurate.

At the end of the day, it is up to the petitioner to perform due diligence in their particular case.

 The fear of saying something silly and feeling embarrassed stops

many of us from contributing more to discussions. With the internet on your PC there is no excuse for not becoming well informed about the world. The more knowledge you have the more conversations you can contribute to.Make a point though of reading up on a variety of subjects otherwise DON'T POST ANYTHING THAT IS OUT OF THE SUBJECT. And those topics may not help as much and will just end up having the case denied. I am new to this site but I believed that this site has contributed a lot with regards to immigration processes. And I am going to help everyone as much as possible to the very best way I can.

Stupid Statements Are Not Allowed!

If you say something stupid then your intentions isn't to help but just mess up the forum. If you try to hide your error then the situation can become chaotic very quickly. It is far better to just admit that you made a mistake. Also, accept that even smart people say stupid things some times. As long as you accept that you will make mistakes you have nothing to worry about. Expecting yourself to be perfect is unfair and just sets you up for failure.

I think our culture has, over the last 40 years, become meaner, coarser, more impolite, and crude. It shows in our popular culture, and in the way that people communicate with each other. Yes, I think American culture is very accepting of stupidity. I think it valorizes stupidity, immaturity, and teenage self-absoption. Look at the all reality TV shows that are so popular, each on descending into the exact same pattern of selfishness, egotism, ignorance, and inability to play nice and share with others. Look at ILE.

And then there's the deadening security blanket of 'irony'. It's one of the most odious elements of postmodernism, and in it's present anodyne form enables just about everything to be considered 'acceptable'/'good'/'hilarious' without first passing through even the most basic process of individual reflection. It feels like people no longer have to OWN their likes/beliefs/cultural microcosms, because anything goes, as long as you've got the ironic 'angle' on it (and probably a really crappy hairstyle to match).:whistle:

Oh, it's good to post. Don't get me wrong. I don't think anyone should be discouraged from posting. Just post with discretion.

One good tactic I have seen is this...if you THINK you have seen the answer posted in another thread, research for the thread. Or tell the OP to research it.

Just please don't go willy-nilly and say - for instance - 'I think if you send your most recent divorce decree showing you are free to marry they won't need copies of your previous decrees' or 'my fiance are 20 years apart in age - you will be fine'. Just some examples I can think of.

Oh, and if you do post incorrectly and then realize it, come back and apologize in the thread and acknowledge you just learned something. I've had to do that a few times myself when I thought I was right.

I agree.....look at the answers but always research for yourself to be sure in your own mind...there are a few ppl on here who I know are immigration savvy but I would still check their answers out for myself  ....the truth is out there folks

i totally agree with you. thats why i dont post that many answers because i am not sure about alot of things except for the process i have gone thru which is the K-1 visa. there are some really complicated questions posted on here. i say the best thing to do is call the uscis and ask them or check the state.gov website. it is also everyones responsibility here to know that most of us are not lawyers and that this does not substitute for legal counsel. it is good to get an idea from someone but, no one can blame visajourney for thier mistakes because they should have checked more into the problem they were having with an official or lawyer.
