This is a state thing, not an immigration thing.

It's a state thing indeed, but to the best of my knowledge no state prohibits LPRs to buy a gun. I personally find that surprising, as as the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution would only apply to citizens I would think.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

In Egypt it is very hard to get a license for a gun unless you are a member of the hunters club

Find a job you love to do, and you will never work another day in your life.

Some people don't make the 2nd ammendment their reason to own a firearm.

The second amendment says "the right of the People". It makes no mention of citizens.

jim is right. the constitution allows for LPR to own firearms, and most states do, as well.

check with your local county sherrif if you do not know how to research this one yourself. your husband may also be entitled to buy and concealed carry a handgun. this is also purview of the county sherrif in most states.

if your hubby is ZA and knows what an FAL is he is good in my book. i think i have one down in the gunroom in baby poop green cammo...time comes i may invite him out drake shooting.

Hi all,

I understand I am a little late for this party but wondering about the same issue.

This is a very helpful link: http://www.vrolyk.org/guns/alien-laws.html

I went to a local gun shop and the owner was incredibly ignorant and will not be receiving our business! In the "live free or die" state he insisted only USC may purchase firearms, ironic, eh? Non-immigrant aliens are restricted, but I have read there are loop holes - such as acquiring a hunting license before trying to purchase a firearm.

As I understand it you must be able to prove legal permanent residence (A# will suffice but likely easier to just take your green card) and residence within the state for atleast 90 consecutive days (license, utility bills, lease, etc). This is the federal legislation - different states have their own regulations and a handful only allow sale/purchase by citizens. Considering GC acquisition typically takes longer than 90 days, as soon as you receive it in the mail you should be good to go! (Assuming no state obstacles to worry about.)

Hope this helps. Any updates from OP or others in regards to purchasing a firearm??

Went to Cabela's today. They knew the process very well.

So this evening I purchased a hunting licence (non-reaident) for Wisconsin and shall return to purchase a firearm.

That's how to do it for K-1 visa holders before you get a green card.
