Hello everybody!!!

I was wondering if it's absolutely important have something joint with your spouse for the AOS interview...shouldn't be more important to have it for the removal of conditions (when we have had time to save up, me being allowed to work, etc)

Right now we are living at his parents place. He got laid off last December from his job, and we both have no insurance (anyway we spent almost all the time in the house). I don't even know if I will have the EAD and a SSN by the time we have an AOS interview (if we have one). We are waiting for both of us to work to open a joint savings account.

Someone has been denied for not having joint properties or accounts for the AOS interview? I mean, we are married, loving each other and living in the same house...makes that difference having something else with both our names?

Thank you in advance and God bless :)

Well, there are two facts at play here.

1. Yes, it is important to have joint stuff. You need to prove that you are married and in the same house.

2. They understand that newlyweds don't have that much time to collect joint assets.

Work on what you have. Hopefully you have photos of your wedding, you can bring affidavits of friends about your relationship, and, the most important, I would think, is get his parents to attest that you both live in their house, or to draft up a sort of "lease" and have you both sign it. There, you have something joint :)

Good luck.

Hi!

Thank you for your reply. Yeah, I was thinking of making his parents write something to prove that we both live there. His younger brother and his wife are currently living in the house with us too so they are witnesses of our every day. Regarding the photos, I have some photos of my wedding yup and a bunch of pictures here and there.

Thank you for your suggestions, I appreciate it! :)

Yes there has been some people denied without joint stuff.. the main one being no joint bank accounts. The more the better. What about cell phone bills? What about car insurance? Or licence with the same address? Affidavits from friends/family.

Hello Vanessa and Tony.

Thank you for your reply. Regarding the phone, he had two phones and I'm using one of them.

As I said, we are waiting to have both of us jobs to open a savings joint account since now we don't have money to put in.

About car insurance and license, I don't have a car yet nor a license because I don't have SSN (until the EAD)

However, I hope I have the EAD in my hands before having the interview and this way, we could work on the bank accounts, car insurance and drivers license.

Thank you again and wish you all the best! :)

Yes, banks will allow you to have joint account even if one does not have a SSN card.

I was able to add my fiancee immediately to my bank account without SSN card. After marriage, Bank of America allowed us to change her name (with certified marriage certificate) to the married name on our Bank of America bank statement. However, Chase bank will not accept name change even with the certified marriage certificate (needs State issued ID). We went to the DMV and requested name change on her DMV Photo ID and then Chase bank allowed us to change her name to the married name on our Chase bank statement.

We were able to open a bank account without me having an SSN. My husband told them that we will supply the SSN as soon as we have it as we are going through the immigration process. They were kind enough to oblige.

How about letters, emails, greeting cards you exchanged or sent by other people to both of you. Make a brief timeline of your relationship. Arrange your photos chronologically with short captions sort of like making a story out of it. Affidavits from at least 3 people like Vanessa & Tony mentioned. I agree with Harpah, work on what you have and figure out how to maximize its effect.

Best of luck on your journey. :)

You may or may not have an interview at AOS stage (unless you have already been scheduled for one). Most couples do not have as much evidence at the AOS stage as they will at the ROC stage because it takes time. I would say the two things you really should do are have a joint checking account and some kind of proof that you both live in the same home. Living with family is not uncommon. I'd recommend saving any official mail addressed to each of you and bringing copies of that to show that you were receiving mail at the same address. As others have said, get an affidavit from your mom saying that you are both living with her. An affidavit is simply a signed statement stating the needed facts. She can write it in the form of a letter if she wants to.
