Has anyone had any trouble entering the US on a K-1 visa only having a one way ticket? Trouble with the airlines or POE or anything? Thanks!

K-1 is an immigrant intent visa, a one way ticket is normal.

My wife entered USA on a K-1 and a one-way ticket.

If you do buy a round trip ticket, make sure you cancel the return trip or the airline may hit you with a penalty charge.

My husband had no issues. He actually said, although slow because of the crowds, he moved through at JFK with no problems at all. I think it is pretty common, especially with the K1 visa. Go with the one-way if it is cheaper.

I've also read one post also where one member's spouse didn't properly cancel his return trip and the airline didn't update their passenger manifest...as a result his AOS was refused.

If you buy a round trip ticket, MAKE SURE you cancel the return as soon as possible. Somewhere on VJ is a thread in which the visa holder came to the US on a round trip ticket and did not cancel the return. The airline gave the seat up to someone flying standby but did not change the passenger manifest. Those manifests are reported to homeland security. When the visa holder went to the AOS interview, the officer had a record of that seat on the plane being used, by the visa holder. He assumed the visa holder left on that return ticket (therefore abandoning the K1 process), then came back into the country, without documentation for the "current" visit, hence illegally. They were denied AOS and deportation processing began. They had 30 days to appeal and prove their case.

You don't want to have to go through that. In many cases the RT ticket is cheaper (not in our case), so it's OK to do either. Just remember to cancel the return.

One way is fine I did that as it was cheaper than return and I had no worries at all.

Thanks everyone! We do seem to be finding that right now round trips are cheaper. And that tickets are VERY EXPENSIVE. oh whats a little more money spent after going through this process! HA

Have you tried checking one-way prices with miles? They for some reason give you a fairer price that way, so in our case we decided to buy miles and book one-way with those. EZE-PDX (Portland, Oregon) for around $600, half the price of a round trip. Expensive of course but not exorbitantly so just because you need one way!
