71 % of Brits have passports

In the US it is 20%

hence "Is London in France ?"

But why would Americans need a passport as they live in "The finest country that has ever existed in the history of the world" (Quote: Mitt Romney)

Does the rest of the world matter, and is there any reason to know where it is or anything about it ?

What's so good about 'over there' anyway ? There is no NFL on telly and they talk kinda funny and it's embarrassing to ask for a toilet when we need the rest room. There are nipples on regular beaches - not just nudie beaches - and the money is really weird too and they expect you too use theirs.

You are expected to say 'please' to the staff in shops like you are doing them a favor instead of the other way round.

They talk like Rome is better than Mount Rushmore when there are no presidents carved heads there and they don't even have turkey day in November !

What use is a passport ? Any ?

You know why. The US is as big as the EU.

Not really - the majority of the US population lives within a few miles of the coast and the rest is horrible wasteland - I know - I live there in a desert in Central Washington

The New Englanders call it the 'flyover'

When the removal man delivered our furniture from Florida his eyes were wide and he kept saying 'I just kept driving - there is nothing - nothing'

I have explored 600 miles east of here - and there is nothing

I went on my motorbike from the North of England to Nice in the south of France via France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and France again - and there is 'a lot' in a similar distance..

I can't imagine that a trip to Boise, Idaho would have the same content

Its not about content, its about cost. IE its cheaper to travel within a continent that outside generally speaking.

You had go 600 miles in Idaho to realize it's not the same as Western Europe? Try going 600 miles north or south for that matter to discover it doesn't look like India.

That is true. However the Germans and the Brits and the Dutch etc go all over the world. The brits have an excuse because they are escaping the rain - but they all go to Peru and New Zealand and the USA and all over.

Also, aren't Americans supposed to be richer and therefore more able to travel ? Perhaps that is the answer because 2% of Americans own most of the country's wealth. Perhaps that is the answer, that most Americans do not have the resoureces of most Europeans. Overall the USA is richer but only a few people have money. Hum, perhaps that is it.
