This is a weird thread. I don't know anything about these two, but it sure seems like a lot of airing of dirty laundry to me.

By Melissa's own admission- This guy belly ached for an expedited interview at the Embassy by going thru friends in high places and then because of a hangover wanted to reschedule....He cannot catch a plane on time....What next?

Honestly, I've been on VJ a while, I've seen people whose IQ I was sure was less than average complete their immigration and start their lives together more organized and motivated than these two.

And, if I remember correctly from threads of recent yore (is "recent yore" an oxymoron?), it may not be out of the realm of reality if a certain intending immigrant ends up verbally insulting the U.S. upon attempted entry at POE.

In regard to Gary and Alla, I think it's wonderful that a husband sings the praises of his wife as often and devotedly as Gary does, si man.

In regard to overimbibing, the future Mrs. T-B. attended consecutive, all-night "despedidas" (going-away parties) in THREE different Ecuadorian cities before catching her flight to the U.S. She arrived as a sleepless zombie, and with a terrible chest infection that took three weeks to clear up, but she arrived on time, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The next-to-last time I had a return flight BKK-NYC (which was my 5th trip to Thailand)

I almost missed my flight not because I was drunk but because I had not scrutinized

the AM/PM quirk which indicates that 12 AM is MIDNIGHT and 12 PM is NOONTIME.

I incorrectly associated PM with daytime and AM with morning and thought I had

until NOON the next day to catch my flight but when we returned to her house at

around 10 PM after being out at a restaurant with her colleagues, I checked my

flight online and realized that I only had 2 HOURS to PACK AND GET TO THE AIRPORT!

Needless to say I made that flight, but only because Suvarnaphumi Airport was

very close to her neighborhood in Samutprakan. If I had had to make it to the old

airport (Don Muang) I would have never made that flight.

Just so you all know, Julian made it here fine on Tuesday. His POE was very smooth and we are getting married tomorrow! I have decided not to have my sister be my MOH but to keep my friend instead. She's been pretty OK with just being a bridesmaid after all. And yes, he missed his flight, which was REALLY annoying, but in the end he is here (and jetlagged and cranky! ) and our wedding is going ahead as planned. I am SO excited! :)

Thank you! And happy holidays to you and your husband too.

It really does make it easier! I told her that it was unfair to my MOH and she eventually gave up pressing me for it.

 I'll ask Julian, but I think he is going to say NO. He's pretty worried about some of the people on VJ coming to hunt him down. :P

Did he already get his SSN? There may be problems if you marry first; may have to wait until after AOS.

You can file joint taxes for 2010; I got married Dec. 31 2009 and that was fine with the IRS.

We went yesterday for his SSN and although he got REALLY frustrated with the woman at the counter for not understanding his accent, he did not say anything TOO bad to her because he wanted actually walk out of there with an SSN! We got the marriage license yesterday, the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner are tonight. I've been off work since Wednesday getting everything prepared. I'm going to my parents' house tonight to spend the night in my old room, and my bridesmaids are all staying with me too. I feel like I'm going to explode with excitement!

You should wait 2 weeks after you arrived in the US before applying for a SSN. If you go too soon your

record of arrival will not be in the SAVE-ASVI system yet, and it will require manual verification from the

USCIS. As this will add weeks to the period it takes to process the SSN, it is advisable to attempt to wait the two weeks to be safe.

Yes this is true normally, but in this case they don't have 2 weeks;

I suspect it may be rejected despite the fact Melissa said that they GAVE him the SSN.

Just because you filled in forms and had all your "ducks in a row" doesn't mean you will

automatically get an SSN; I would check back at the office in 3 weeks time and re-apply

then, as that would be plenty of time for the SAVE-ASVI system to display his record of arrival.

They claimed that my wife's initial SSN application was rejected because she got married

and changed her name BEFORE applying; maybe that won't be a problem in Julian's case

as he won't (never say never) have changed his name...but the truth is they just botched

her application and didn't give us the correct information.

No it's not a cause for any drama at all.

It's as I suspected - so just go there in 3 weeks and everything should be OK.

Do NOT wait for the rejection letter - my wife's never came!

The SSN is NOT a requirement for AOS; I believe you can apply for AOS

any time after the wedding but you do want to get the documentation together.

Don't wait more than 3 months after his POE as it then gets a little tricky

(we know folks who waited more than a year after her POE and they claim

that it should go through without a hitch - we will see...).

He can't work until AOS is completed so the SSN has no urgency at this time.

It's only usefulness will be as his tax ID# come April 15.

Best wishes again
