HEy guys

ok so I have a question for yall

as most of you know I came to the United States on a K1 visa, My I-94 expires in January 30!... now we DO know we have to get married before my I-94 expires, but it is kind of stressful to know that we have to hurry up and plan everything really fast .. the reason we didnt plan beforehand was because 1.- the visa rules said that we were not supposed to plan anything until it was approved and 2.- we had no idea our visa process was gonna go SO FAST and smooth like it did (THANK GOD and Visa Journey for that)

so this month has gone by really fast! and we came up with a plan to make this a little bit less stressful and I just want to see your point of view as how it would affect my Adjustment of status process... Our plan is to get married next week.. "legally" which means go get our marriage license and then go to a court house and just make things official legally then go ahead and apply for my AOS and then just plan our church wedding for MArch... (obviously we will be married legally already before this year even ends)!.. the reason we want to do this is because we want to go ahead and file for my adjustment of status and also so we can have enough time to plan a nice cute and lovely wedding! :D... now here is the thing.. Im not sure how much proof I will need for AOS ... we will take some pics at the court house but it will not be a big deal.. probably not even a white dress.. and we wouldnt have a honeymoon yet because we would wait till march.. how would that affect our process? not having proof of a honeymoon.. and not having a large amount of pictures to show of a big wedding... .. do you think that would affect us? also we wil be living at her parents house until the big wedding in March and then move out.. do you think the fact that we are living at her parents house will affect anything? ... I already received my SSN and I already got a Bank account and I joinned her account .. I think so far thats all we got.. plus the marriage certificate and probably a couple of pictures from the court house and maybe add pics of thanksgiving with her family.. to prove that we actually have a relationship and I have one with her family..

I just wanna make sure that doing things this way will affect us in the future!.. Thanks

my family would be able to make it to our wedding in March.. not holidays!.. so it would be just her family and me at the court house!...

are your parents coming over for the wedding or for the holidays? some pics of the two families together wouldn't hurt.

Thank you :) hope everything is going great w u two as well :D

Not a problem. Many couples do it this way. they don't care if you had a big wedding, some people don't 'cause they cant afford it or whatever they DO care that your relationship is real. So co-mingling of assets and money etc... joint bank account, joint names on bills (like electric, phone etc).

None of this is sent in with the AOS paperwork, this is IF you get an interview. Not everyone does. So you have around 3 months from filing your AOS to get your evidence together for interview, if you have one. Hey, the "big" wedding might even have happened by then.

no stress :)

There's an AOS thread in my signature with the full list of required docs but there's NO proof of relationship required at this stage (as you're applying based on your marriage to a USC, the marriage certificate is proof of your eligibility). Just the regular stuff like vaccinations, G-325A, I-864 etc. Don't forget your EAD and AP fees are waived when applied for with AOS and that the new AOS fee is $1070... EAD and AP will be really helpful along the way and there's not much extra paperwork to them :)

Like Vanessa said have a look at her guide line for AOS and no stress. Your application is what it is and proof of marriage is a certificate to send in with AOS. We didn't have a honey moon either and had a small wedding but heaps of pics lol but lots get married in the court as they can't afford anything bigger. You will be fine, to infinity and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol Good luck

Getting married before the end of 2010 will also allow you to file 2010 taxes jointly and will mean less tax (or a bigger refund) for her.
