S how long does it take the homeowners to break even on their investment? Does it add vslue of the resale of the home?

The point is that even good intentions and going green may not be economical and I'm guessing tax breaks are the deciding factor.

It depends on the size of the house and how efficient it is in other areas. Generally speaking its between 6-8 years. Larger homes in the market of 3 million+ its becoming almost a requirement. IE if a modern home doesn't have it its missing a major amenity. For California, frankily its a good deal because of the cost of electricity and the fact that the power grid has been maxing out. Solar is especially important in that respect because often it delivers peak performance at peak usage time. In that way its really superior to windpower.

Its good IMO that the US supports the solar manufacturing in the US, and honestly this should be applied to other industries under attack from China.

America is the richest country in the world. It can do so much more if visionary peoples are given the wiggle room. For makes Flex cars in Brasil. Flex cars can run on both ethenol and petrol. Why can't they make the same freaking car in America and sell it to Americans. Meanwhile millions and millions of acres of America is going unused. We should start planting and farming suger cane and make ethenol which we can sell on the cheap to developing country and make a boat load of money.

One of the most effective ways to reduce our consumption is through conservation, but reducing oil consumption was never a goal for the Bush Administration or even the Reagan Administration. When Carter was in office, he had a solar water heater installed on the roof of the White House and then when Reagan took office, he had it removed. Beyond platitudes, the Republicans over the last 25 years have had no real commitment toward environmental issues, let alone sustainable energy. However, there are private industries that have been working towards alternative energy, but without the political will, their progress is slow.

Please don't play that partisan BS. You really think EITHER party has had any commitment towards those things? You've been blind as a bat for awhile if you think so. The same special interests consume both parties heavily.

Because ethanol is not energy efficient at all. It takes more energy to make it than it saves and on top of that is cuts directly into the food supply. Now I will give you the fact that you're right and it's moronic that we pay farmers to keep from farming. There is a good reason for this ultimately, or I should say was.... but if we could get them to start farming again and export certain foods to other countries who need it, then yeah that might work. The Danger here is, and what worries alot of people though is that too many will want to export and not enough will want to keep their crops in the nation. The question becomes, "who's allowed to export and who's not?"

Ethenol from sugar cane is 70% more efficient to produce than from corn and wheat. Corn and wheat makes a bigger impact on food suply than does sugar cane.

It is a good move in the right direction to increase renewable energy source use.

The problem is Obama wants to show it as a win on 2 fronts to win political traction he has been losing; it didn;t work.

The cost per job created is grossly expensive and so should not be considered a win in the employment issue.

With that said it is a well known fact we will be facing high cost to rid ourselves of the OIL dependency.

2 of them about 1/4 mile from me ... why?

ever wonder how much is costs to produce a gallon of that stuff ....

what it's sold for ...

what the subsidy from .gov is ...

and of course there is the "other" costs .... meaning what products are now more expensive due to the .gov requirement to produce this fuel ....
