I oppose the Vuvuzela not because it is cool to do so.

I oppose it because it is incredibly annoying. Where is the ebb and flow of the crowd as the game happens?

The constant drone adds nothing to the atmosphere.

And the fact that the games have been very drab so far just adds to the misery. I can't believe I've spent 28 hours of my life watching the drab, cagey, unadventurous, let's-stay-in-our-half soccer when I could have done other things.

Bring on the league season in August soon! That is so much more exciting.

Yep. The noise doesn't even subside when the game has stopped because a player is lying on the ground, injured.

I find it annoying when watching the games, but more importantly, Im not in the stadium, the players are and its really affecting them, constant LOUD droning on and on unceasing...relentless. If nothing else, ban them for the players sake, at least i can maybe get used to it over time on TV, but to be on site listening to this droning at the same levels as a damn jetplane? Gimme a break.

I don't know what it is, but I'm in Nicaragua and the World Cup is being aired by one of our national channels and the background vuvuzela noise is very low. We can hear clearly the commentators. I've read a lot of comments in yahoo and other articles complaining about it but maybe the networks could do a better job.

I did read FIFA was trying to ban them, I don't know if its actually going to be done though.

Depending on who they are, the commentators might be the only thing more annoying than the vuvuzela horns.

I don't need to hear the commentators. I want to hear the crowd. I want the atmosphere inside the stadia. I don't want to think I'm going to get stung to death any second!

Adrian Healey and Ian Darke are two I do not look forward to. They are always going on with their stories and useless statistics during the game. It seems they have been instructed by ESPN executives to keep doing it so as to keep the non-soccer-fans interested who may be tuning in out of curiosity.

Yeah but what I meant was that we don't have the vuvuzela problem...

As a South African I take offence at calling us Bastards. The vuvuzela is part of our tradition and what you have not taken into consideration is how this seemingly worthless piece of plastic has united a nation and broken down all social, race and gender barriers. It may sound a little odd but it has helped heal a country don't knock it.

I do miss the chanting and the songs - was looking forward to the different countries hooligans, too.

This VuVuwotsit has removed 'that fun' for me.

B@stards.

I agree, name calling is not useful.

However, I question your right to blow the Vuvuzela during the games.

By all means blow it before and after the games, or in your home, or in the town square.

But please do not do it during the game in the stadium. It is annoying and distracting.

A little odd, no its annoying as hell. Many are forced to wear earplugs and players are having a hard time communicating on the field.

They had a piece about this on the radio last night. Basically, they said that in the stadium, the drone is not as distracting as it is on TV, as your ears/brain can tune out certain constant noises and focus on others. Microphones can't do that, so the TV broadcast collects everything and spits it out through the speakers. They are developing a secondary filter for the TV broadcast, which is why the noise is quieter on some stations/broadcasts than others.

For my own part, I don't find it distracting from the game or really that annoying even. After five minutes, I'm able to tune it out. To be fair, though, I'm neither a player nor a spectator in South Africa.

Although I usually appreciate different cultures, I have a mixed opinion when it comes to these things.

I am all up for unity, celebration and the rest of the positives that the FIFA WC brings. But come on, one thing is cheering for your team (which has only played once by the way), heckling goalkeepers, protesting at times, etc. with those loud contraptions, and another one to make the worst noise ever (like the spice girls) sound like Mozart. It's been 90+ minutes, three times a day...COME ON!!!!

It's sort of primitive if you ask me.

Ugh, Switzerland scored...
