Event Description
Review Date : July 19, 2010
Embassy Review : Date - 19.07.10, Time of interview: 10:15 am. New Delhi - US Consulate

-Reached at 9:15 am.Deposited mobile at a separate counter in a different building ( 5 mins walk from the entry gate) and was provided a token for the same at 9:40 am. They took down my name, contact number and looked at my passport. I was asked to switch off my phone while handing it over.

-Proceeded to the line where the guard looked at my interview letter and asked if I was carrying any electronic items and then ticked my name on a list. There was no waiting as there were just 2 people along with me in the queue.

- Entered the consulate. The security screening process was simple and pleasant. They asked me to put all my belongings in a tray to run through the scanning machine. They asked me to drink the water that I was carrying and then allowed me to take it with me. But very sweet personnel...

- Entered the waiting area at 9:55 am which was like a shed sort of a structure with big fans whirring away. There was a lady issuing white slips with numbers on it. No tokens...I was asked to proceed to the last gate on my left.

- Entered the air conditioned building and walked up to where the biometric finger printing process took place. There was absolutely no waiting time. This was at 10:05 am.

- Was asked to wait in the area but my pre screening number was already flashing when I reached the immigrant visa section so I had no time for a breather. There was a young Indian lady who asked me to open the sealed medical records I was carrying and hand them over excepting the X ray report, which she said I have to carry with me at the time of travel, as I would be required to display it. She looked through all my papers , handed me back my original set of papers, returned my appointment letter and retained my passport. The only 2 questions that she asked were-

- Have you been to any other country other than the US?
- Where and how long have you stayed there?

She then asked me to wait for my name to be called out. All of this was completed by 10:20 am.

- I then waited till 12 noon and was called to a counter where a young American Male CO greeted me and asked me to to take the oath and raise my right hand. He asked me the following questions-

- What does your husband do?
- How long have you been married?
- What do you do?

- He then asked me to sign the DS 230- II. He cancelled my tourist visa and said I am cancelling your tourist visa and you will get your passport in 7 working days.

I asked if I could collect it from the VFS office and he said I would have to check with the VFS office directly. The whole interview lasted about 2 minutes. He did not ask to see any photos or supportings.

I was out at 12:15 and the process took about 2.5 hours. Some things to note-

- The immigrant visa area does not have a separate restroom and snack counter. So one has to exit the building and walk out. There is a provision for drinking water though.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
