The 13-story mosque and cultural center will be built on the site of a four-story building that was a Burlington Coat Factory retail store until 9/11, when part of a plane’s landing gear crashed through the roof. The building, which will be razed, currently houses a mosque.

Please understand Ground Zero is not the monument that was erected but the area that was affected by the attack itself.

Posters should edcuate themselves before climbing out to attack another poster; especially if they are ignorant of the facts.

Defending lies gets you no where learn the truth defend the truth.

As I stated it is their USC right to build the mosque even if it is in poor taste.

Just as if they were to build it away from the site and someone were to protest that building.

If they insist on building this building then they will earn the ire of most of NYC citizens who will most likely protest and demonstrate for years to come.

I worked in NYC for 4 years, I know the building that they plan to use. It is not in Ground Zero, which is an enclosed construction site that isn't open to the general public.

Interesting, look at what else is in the area.

The Taj Tribeca, an Indian restaurant named after the Taj Mahal.

As we all know, India has either the most or second most Muslims of any country on the planet.

And the Taj Mahal was built by a Muslim emperor of India.

It seems to me the tentacles are already in place in that area and this proposed mosque is just another step.

Just so I have this straight, Muslim's CAN protest this, but pointing out a large, very visible mosque in the shadow of ground zero is arguably going to be offensive to many in NY?:

Nike recalls disputed logo

Company apologizes to offended Muslims

Nike Inc. Tuesday let the other shoe drop in a public affairs snafu festering for three months, agreeing to recall a line of shoes with a logo that a Muslim group found offensive. The logo, meant to look like flames, resembles the word "Allah" in Arabic script. Shoes bearing the flame have been sold this summer under the names Air Bakin', Air Melt, Air Grill and Air B-Que.

In announcing its first-ever recall, Nike said it will apologize to Muslims and donate a $50,000 playground to an Islamic elementary school in the United States. In exchange, the Council on American-Islamic Relations said it will urge Muslims worldwide not to boycott Nike products.

"Many . . . may not understand how offensive it is to have the name of God on a shoe," said Nihad Awad, the Islamic council's executive director. "The shoe gets dirty. It gets muddy. It gets sweaty. We believe this is disrespectful to the name of God."
