The ships' captains understood International Law. The other 5 ships reacted with sense and in accordance gave no resistance to the boarding and search.

If the "activists" had put up peaceful resistance, as the Israelis had been assured beforehand, there would have been no bloodshed and, had no proscribed materials been found, the ships would have been released to continue on their way.

If the "activists" had been smarter, there could have been the same crappy outcome for the Israelis, with no deaths, no bad press for the "activists" and no controversial "he said, she said" back and forth muddying the waters as to who instigated the violence. Given the choice, I'd rather go for the route that ensures I get out alive and unequivocally on the right side of the situation.

I don't know about you but I don't back anyone regardless of what they do.

It's bad enough my Federal US tax dollars go to them. I don't care if it's 10 cents, that money should be going to Americans not Israelis.

Edited by Booyah!

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Official blockade?!! you mean genocide. we can play with the words all day long but the truth is clear, every human being wants to live in peace exept the radicals. the only way to get peace is to give peace, but Israel have drained many gallons of blood, we are living in a shaky times, where the things(money, oil...) that innocent people killed for are going down the drain.

Be careful with that term my friend. That applies to the rest of the world. Israel get's a free pass on that one. They call it "defense"

All these ships need to do is have international military ships escort them.

What are they going to do then? Attack them too and expect the US to blindly come to their aid.

If the accompanying warships are neutral in the conflict, which they would be, and they assert in good faith that they have examined and that there is no proscribed cargo on board the ships under escort, Israel would have no standing to board and search them.

Any other Israeli action would be contrary to International Law and result in justified military action on the part of the escorting warships. This would be rather one-sided, as Israel doesn't have a deep-water navy as such and would get its a$$ royally kicked.

Yeah all that political money could be sent straight to Tel Aviv.

Do you really think that Israel would allow a box of Corn Flakes into Gaza via the sea? The navy part is laughable. Israel doesn't need a deep navy. They have the US navy, plus 100s of US purchased fighters that I am sure are armed with air to sea missiles.

I'm actually a little shocked they didn't just scramble the jets and blow all of the ships out of the water as is their past history. Use a sledgehammer to crack a peanut.

I've got no side in this, either. I'm just tired of people arguing the situation in total ignorance, or unwillingness to listen to dispassionate reasoning.

I have a side because my tax dollars are funding this idiocy.

They had subs in 1967. And, evidently, even US ships are not immune to Israeli attack, from above, or below.

Maybe I'll run my row boat from the Sinai over there with a bag of Florida oranges? Maybe they'll only deploy 3 helicopters and one ship.

The USS Liberty was hardly a frontline warship, though, and probably never knew what was coming its way.

If you're going to escort a humanitarian aid cargo ship, you need a frontline warship, with effective means of detecting and responding to sub-surface, surface and aerial threats, something Israel has never had to face before.

I find it odd that Israel is acting just like the people they railed against. (the german army) In early 1940s they called it the Warsaw Ghetto.

The Germans *killed* everyone in the Warsaw Ghetto. Those who didn't die were deported to Treblinka and other death camps.

It's not even *remotely* the same thing.

Eventually that's what happened. Prior to that they segregated them in a small part of Warsaw. The Germans decided how much food, supplies etc. got in. That's what I'm referring to. So yes it is "remotely" the same

Were the Jews in Warsaw firing rockets at a civilian population? No. It is not the same at all.
