A serious car crash involving a local lawmaker and a suspected illegal immigrant is threatening to reignite already heated debates about immigration on Beacon Hill, according to police reports obtained by FOX25.

State Rep. Mike Moran of Brighton was rear-ended by a suspected illegal immigrant this week. The suspect was wearing a Mexican costume at the time of the crash where he slammed into Moran at 60 mph.

The suspect, 27-year-old Isaias Naranjo, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a valid license. According to the report, when told of the serious charges he would be facing, he just laughed.

But because of action taken by Gov. Deval Patrick, state police were unable to notify immigration authorities that Naranjo might be illegal.

Three years ago, Patrick revoked an order by former governor Mitt Romney which gave state police power to investigate immigration violations.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I saw Massachusetts drunk driver before "illegal alien" and thought this was an old story about Teddy Kennedy

In all reality though, this is the type of ####### that happens that shouldn't be happening.

You have the idiots out there who are like "well Americans drink and drive too" and fail to realize their own stupidity in that statement.

The bigger questions is was the man wearing a sombrero. A sombrero would've definately prevented this crash. Somehow.

The TV is reporting that when the state police told him he was in serious trouble he laughed and said

"he was going to go back to my country, Mexico. Nothing is going to happen to me, man"

That doesn't make any sense. It's not like the police could deport him anyways, so what does it matter if they had the power to investigate his status? During the normal course, they would have to identify who he was because he didn't have a license. That process would determine that he wasn't a citizen.

None of it has to make sense, you just have to get angry because undocumented migrants are laughing in the faces of real Americans and democrats are taking away/not providing the tools that could be used to stop them. Pointless waste of time, the lot of it.

Well, it is very frustrating to see someone like this guy get convicted of a crime, and then deported back to mexico to serve his sentence in a Mexican jail, and then he gets released 3 months later because of overcrowding in jails.

Many things are frustrating - the whole business of undocumented migrants is frustrating. It's frustrating on many levels and in many ways.
