Gang, You know we all have a lot of time on our hands and we are thinking. Some times us USA Guys and Gals take for granted what we have around us. It would be cool to get input from the other side of things of what they enjoyed upon coming to the land of dreams. What did the find cool? What do they still wish to go do? What was the strangest thing for them? You guys know what i am speaking of. I have been thinking about it and making plans of things to do from homes to school too going to Disney and the beach. Let it hang out and see where this goes. All the best!

Didn't do to much during the winter while Doan adjusted to the cold, she was pretty amazed by the snow (she is from the South of Vietnam).

More recently we:

1) Took a drive to Cooks National Forest and spent the day walking in the forest.

2) Visited the tiny Erie, PA zoo.

3) Went to Niagra Falls NY for our honeymoon (didn't cross the border!) and visited the little aquarium and the Buffalo Zoo.

4) Taught her how to drive the riding lawn mower  (her feet can barely reach the pedals hehe only 5' tall)

5) Preparing to plant flowers

6) This weekend I'm bowling in a tournament in Dayton Ohio but after I'm done we are going to visit the Cox Arboretum and Butterfly House

Saving some bigger adventures for summer and better weather, like going to Florida or maybe California to visit friends.

We've got a lot of time ahead so no sense rushing things. Looking forward to getting through AOS and AP so we can go back to Vietnam too!

When my fiance visited last summer, the biggest thing he wanted to do was take a road trip. He said a big road trip was, to him, a quintessential part of his view of a holiday in the US. We went (from WI) to Minneapolis (visiting a friend); Yellowstone, Grand Teton (both in WY) and Canyonlands (in Utah, near Moab) National Parks; Boulder, CO, and meandered back to WI. We took state and county roads rather than freeways, and camped at various state parks when we weren't with a friend or in the NPs. The whole thing took about 3 weeks. I think Yellowstone is a great place to go, and totally unlike anywhere else. Also, the Utah desert is breathtaking.

That sounds great! Sooo jealous you had 3 weeks off of work to do that. :( I get my third week soon though! Just one more year of service!

One of my high school friends just got his motorcycle license, and he's planning quite a similar trip with many of the things you mentioned for this summer. I've been trying to convince him to keep a blog so I can live vicariously. :)

Well, I was unemployed at the time, so there was a lot of stopping at cafes with wireless internet so I could check job listings and send off CVs by email... And a lot of stressing out about money, so the whole thing was done on the cheap. I interviewed for my current job on the phone while I was in the sticks of Nebraska. :)

For us it's San Diego Zoo (1st thing she wants to see), then shopping, Sea World, the beach..... then in month or we get married and probably will be hanging out in Disneyland....wish it was Disneyworld, I been there 10 times and love that place, but with all this Visa money out of my pocket ...just can't afford trip to Florida. Disneyland is just a few hours drive north. :)

Gang, You know we all have a lot of time on our hands and we are thinking. Some times us USA Guys and Gals take for granted what we have around us. This is a great topic David!! Very cool that we can get some inputs and share our ideas.

I am the fiance, and I have always wanted to go on a road trip.Yep Megan, the quintessential view of America through the eyes of a greedy traveller!I would love to do that.We are actualyl planning for one, but John has made it a subtle point to stop at some of the Jack Daniel's distilleries for sure(I think there is one in Tennessee which he has been raving about)

I would also like to go to the small beach side towns! I love karaoke nights in small little bars.hehe!

I cannot think of anything more specific off the top of my mind now but it got me thinking :)

Thanks Guys and Gals for posting. As for me I live in Jacksonville Florida. I am a Southerner and sound like Val Kilmer and Forrest Gump when i speak. The south is full of things to do. Anna wants to go to Alaska and we will but i think that will be next summer. I have a friend that lives there and we will head up there. Personally, I have niot been to Turkey or Odessa. I have seem photos of it and it looks very nice. I have seem many beaches around the world i feel none are better than Sarasota Flordia. We will hang out there for sure. In Athens Georgia they have a bile race in the middle of town every year. The Pros that ride the Tour de France come there and it is a blast to watch. Anna has never sky dived. I have and i told her we would go do that for sure. Anna has never had Mexican food. I was shocked with that. So another thing on the list for sure.

I gave Anna I Nikon D90 camera while i was there and she told me she just wants to travel and take photos. Sure, we can do that. I have spent just so much time preparing for her arrival i am ready to have some fun!!!!! Home, Work, school for her, details of life, you know. I got flamed in another post i made about Anna having shock when she comes here. Yes we skype but, This is the land of dreams and where Anna comes from she only makes 250 dollars a month. Of course I add to that and make her life without stress with cash but, how could not have shock when coming here.

In closing, Keep the ideas flowing. Always cool too hear what the other side things and feels.

Yes, I understand. I am lucky i am about 2 hours away from Orlando. So Disney is quick for me. I have several trips for us planned already. Las Vegas, Cancoon, Atlanta and all over Florida. I was in the Marines and my son is a Crew Cheif on HMLA 467. They are in Cheery Pointe. It is a Huey and Cobra Squadron and they have a air show every year. I was thinking it would be cool to run up there and let her see the air show. I have a friend at Barracks 1 in DC. That is the home for the Marines Silent Drill team. They do a night show that will bring tears to your eyes. Truly stunning to see perfection in action. I am working on that for sure.

Anna, really amazed me with her knowlege of the USA. The only thing she did not know was the USA is a Republic. With that being said, what a cool trip to do Washington DC. I worked there for a while and still did not see it all. Would love to go back. Call me selfish i guess, lol.

Best of Luck

This may sound wacky but she has taken an interest in Spanish soap operas and variety shows.

The fact that she is Thai and knows no Spanish was not a deterrent...

It could be that they are more similar in format to the ones back home than American shows.laughing.gif
