We had our interview today and the consular officer denied the visas for my wife (almost 4 years of marriage) and 19 months old baby.

We were given a white sheet that says 221G

So now what can I do ?

What is PRECISELY stated on that 212g? They have to give you a reason for denying them visas.

What were the questions asked and the responses to those questions at the interview?

Was the USC petitioner present at the interview? Were you separately interviewed?

She also told my wife that she will received a call telling her what to do. This is very unusual.

Is the child your biological son/daughter? Then the child doesn't need a visa as he/she is a USC by virtue of parentage.

Wait--from what you're saying it doesn't sound like an outright denial.

Sounds like you need to submit that birth certificate, pronto.

You're not denied. 221g means they want more info. Give them what they asked for.

OK, Edward Toro. It sounds like they have requested a birth certificate, but you had one already. Is it possible that they need to see the birth certificate in a different format, i.e. long form vs. short form? Are you sure that they are requesting a copy of your baby's birth certificate, who is likely already a USC, and does not need a VISA? For example, is your baby's name similar to yours or your wife's name? Maybe they need a birth certificate for you or her (to prove citizenship), instead? I wish you the very best of luck.

If you want meaningful help, tell us exactly what the 221G notice says, not your interpretation or emotional reactions to it. Is the child entitled to US Citizenship? If they think your child is entitled to US Citizenship, they will not issue an IR2 visa. You'll need to file a Consular Report of Birth Abroad and get the baby a US passport instead.

We need actual details to offer actual assistance.

Sounds like what they wanted from me. They wouldnt issue my visa until I got our Daughters CRBA... its done and sent off. Look into it, if all else fails get your congressmen to look into it.

Respond to the 221G, giving them exactly what they want, in the format they need.

Hi Edward - try not to get to worked up over this just yet. It is actually very common.

As Pushbark mentioned, post exactly what the 221g says.

We can all speculate what might me meant but without knowing exactly what it says that is all it is.

You are not denied!!!!!! a 221g is simply a request for more information or may be issued when the consulate wants more time to review something. They even use this form when they screw up and you do nothing wrong

Read the 221g very carefully and gather up what they requested.

Type here what the 221g states verbatim to get the most accurate advice. Without that we are all only guessing. A 221g is not an outright denial, seems like they have asked you to submit some more documents before issuing your wife's visa. As for the baby, if she is a citizen, then they cannot give her a visa, they are probably trying to figure out if she should get a passport.

Thank very much for your help an answers. I have not been able to answer as fast as I used to because I was with my wife an baby and we were very sad because all this. I just comeback to the States and I will post exactly what the letter says. Again thank you very much for you support in this  difficult time
