Hi Guys,

First time poster. Got some great info on the site. Actually better information in less then an hour then talking to 3 CSR from USCIS. Thanks for all the info here. I hoping I can get some explanation on this issue also.

I am a us citizen and recently got engaged in India. And as things go in India this is/was an arranged setting. I met my fiance a few time. I had never met her before (even though some of my relatives and mom had met her) until my visit to India. I came back to US a week after the engagement.

I am getting the K-1 package ready and am kinda stumped on this "Declaration of how you met in person in the last two years" thing (I-129F Part B, Question 18)...

My question is that since this was an arranged setting what would be the right wording to put in since I can just think of a single line sentence for this.

I am sure there are people here who have gone through this arranged wedding stuff in India and hopefully can guide me in the right direction.

Thanks to all in advance

I used two sentences, but a single sentence should work. Incidentally you cannot get married, arranged or otherwise, until she arrives on the K-1 visa. Otherwise you need the CR-1

"Returning from a trip to Ukraine on September 19, 2007 I had a two day layover in Prague CZ. I met Alla while waiting in line at the airport to buy bus tickets to the city"

I attached ONE photo of us together, copies of boarding passes and copies of the passport stamps for the trip. That is all.

Yes, Gary is right. That's one option. If you choose to explain further, use a separate sheet of paper as supplement to that then just write in the form "see attached page." Again, that's not necessary but if you feel the need to do that, go on.

Be honest in whatever you say. That's what matters. You don't have to sugarcoat the truth or use fancy words.

Have a successful K1 journey!

Mine was:

"Vanessa and I met in person in October 2008 when Vanessa travelled to the United States and stayed in Houston, Texas with me for sixty-five (65) days before returning to Australia."

They're asking how and when you met IN PERSON. Not the circumstances of your "beginning a relationship". They asked me about that in the interview and i said "met online. World of Warcraft" and had no issues. We'd known each other since Aug 2007 but petitioned for K1 in Feb 09 so we had lots of proof of a substantial time of knowing each other.

Well that's part of the problem is that my total time between meeting her and the engagement was less than three weeks (yeah, I know that' practically nothing. But that's how life works I guess). So I can tell them when and where but as proof all I can provide is copy of my ticket/boarding pass and photos of our engagement.

Will that be enough proof?

Your ticket and boarding passes are primary proof, as well as any credit card statements etc that show you were there at the time you say you were, and photos are secondary, that will back it up. With those you should be fine. They wont care how long the relationship was before you proposed or if you met her before that, not at this stage, those questions may come at the interview.

As the others said, one sentence is enough as a statement, but you must also submit proof in the form of plane tickets, photos together or whatever you have. That is enough for this stage of the petition.

Arranged marriages are common in India, so the consulate will be familiar and ok with this when it comes to interview time, but you should make sure to communicate with your fiancee from now on, and document this, ie proof to them at the interview this is a bonafide relationship, by showing emails, phone calls, maybe another trip to see her etc.
