Man Hospitalized After Castrating Himself

CEDAR RAPIDS — A 71-year-old man was taken to a hospital after police say he intentionally castrated himself Monday morning.

Emergency crews responded around 11:10 a.m. when the man reported the incident himself. The man told a police dispatcher he castrated himself for religious reasons using a razor blade.

A few minutes after arriving at the gated community residence, a police officer confirmed the report.

Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the man was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital. His name was not released.

I've heard of those graphically realistic "stations of the cross" festivals in the PI,

but this guy gives a whole new meaning to the notion of a religious sacrifice based

on pain. He must have been drinking holy firewater to steel his nerves. :huh:
