Experiences With Early Biometrics / Walk-Ins

I tried searching (VJ and Google) to find out what kind of experiences people had when they just showed up for an unscheduled biometrics appointment.. specifically in St. Louis, but I would like for anyone that has used this option to feel free to share their experience.

I don't intend to use this forum to advocate this action, I just want to know what the people that did choose to do so experienced when they did it. This being said, I would appreciate greatly if members refrained from making off topic posts such as .. “Wait your turn” and “There is a reason they make appointments.”.. etc., etc.

Thank you in advance,

Once you get your biometrics notice with a scheduled date, you can go in anytime, even the next day, for a walk-in appointment. There are reports of dozens of people here in VJ, including my hubby, who just walked in for an earlier appointment. The experience is always the same: at the counter we just show the notice and ID and they call the person inside after a few minutes. They don't even care about the scheduled time or date on the notice! They never even look at that.

If anyone has had a different experience, let's hear it. :innocent:

At our Filed Office, you cannot get biometrics done early. We can and did have to schedule it for a later date. Other Field Offices will let you do it early. The only way I know to find out is to actually go to your Field Office and ask them. They don't have a phone number you can call and I doubt the 800 # will know. You cannot do it early unless you have to letter from USCIS which schedules you. Good luck.

John24689, did you actually go to the field office with the Biometrics notice and they refused to do it early? If so, this is the first case I heard of. Quite a number of offices in various states and towns accepted it with no problemcheduling ca. Anyway, if anyone wants to do an early Bio, they can just walk in with the notice and if they are refused, no harm. Resn be done later if necessary.

My field office is Indianapolis. I received my BIO appointment, only to discover it was scheduled for a time that I would be out of the country. I called the USCIS, only to get a gentleman on the phone who just kept reading from a script and telling my I would be putting my case in jeopardy if I did not show up.

So I decided to make an INFOPASS appointment at my local office, to see if I could reschedule. I went armed with all kinds of documentation proving I would out of the country. The gentleman I spoke to there just smiled and said "Would you like to do them today". He was very nice and hence got my BIO's done on the spot.

ELW, we went to the Field Office with both my wife's and her daughter's Notice for Biometrics. They would not let them do it early. We had to go after the original date because we were going to be out of town. Many others don't have this problem. Good luck.

i was also turned away for early bio...the office is always busy... only offices where it's slow will let you do early bio. best way is to show up and ask first. if they don't let you, reschedule.

All,

We just got back from the USCIS Atlanta, GA office as a walk in. My hubby appt was for Sep 17. But he travels for about 90% of the time from home with his job and he was not scheduled to be in the Atlanta area on the Sep 17. So if the walk in process did not work today; we would have to get it rescheduled. We were in and out of there within 20 minutes tops from going thru security, getting finger printed and picture taken.

I agree with the posting from ELW and sprintscorer; the security officer was only concern that we had a notice for the appointment; he never questioned the date. While I am not encouraging every one to run down to their office before their date. I do think if you are like us and actually live in or near the city where the biometric appt; it will not hurt to attempt the walk in process prior to rescheduling the appointment.

St Paul will only do it on a Saturday

FWIW, biometrics is done at the Application Support Center (ASC) and NOT at the local USCIS field office... In some cities they may be in the same building but in many cities they are not.

YMMV

We've not been yet, but a friend of mine went in August for her natz biometrics - she was under the impression that they do not take walk ups there. This is the Nashville, TN office.

What about doing a walk-in in a city other than the one where your residence is ?

Anyone knows anything about that?

Thanks a lot!

PS: We travel so much for my husband's job it's impossible for us to be in the state where our mailing address is...

Not all offices behave like one, so do not make conclusions. Your innocent conclusions lead to serious loss of time when people are turned away from crowded overburdened centers due to an early show. A rightly trained security can turn you down as per protocol. There could be some flexible days, but mostly -- you are supposed to be present only on the date and time you are assigned.

You are right that I made the wrong conclusions due to hearing about all the people here on VJ who did successful walk-ins. I would still say the majority of cities take walk-ins with no problem, as proved by numerous reports here. Anyway, I do repeat that it couldn't hurt to just drop in and try it (unless one lives, far, far away), in case someone cannot make the scheduled date and didn't want to reschedule for a later date. There is probably no other choice, because many (if not all) of the Bio service centers don't have listed phone numbers! :protest:

I never heard cases, however, of people trying to do a Bio appointment at a different address then given on their notice. I would think that is not done.

All Bio centers have a phone numbers that are private. The bottom line -- you can go in and try, but its still a hit or miss. Only do an early biometrics if your SURE that someone has done it before at your local ASC. That keeps you in a comfort zone away from uncertainty.
