My fiance lives in Kabul and as you see on TV it is not pretty there. I am concerned for her safety and told her to leave Kabul during the election cycle but she can't do that every time there is a threat. do you guys think that this would be a valid reason to call USCIS about? Do they care? please advise.

tough situation. I think you should expedite, worst case they tell you no, best case, they tell you yes, and she gets here faster. it could only help. good luck, and i wish you the best.

For requesting an expedite, you have to write a letter supporting your the facts why you would like to request the expedite and send it to the expedite department.

They don;t handle that over the phone

I called USCIS and the lady was very nice to me. She did submit an expedition request for me and told me that I should hear from them within a week if i need to submit anything further. For some reason, her system went down and she couldn't give me a reference number. I am crossing my finger that the request went through before her system crashed.

Have you tried calling back to see if this expedite request has indeed been submitted? I thought expedite requests, for whatever reason, were done in writing....not by whoever's on the other line at the USCIS customer (mis)service center? No wonder "system crashed" and there is no reference number... <_<

Start gathering proof for the expedite, such as newspaper articles etc... especially anything stating that those with contacts/ relationships with USCs are in danger. I know Iranian and Iraqi members of VJ have gotten expedites on these grounds. That being said, even with an expedite it'll take at least weeks to get the visa, and the worst will likely be over by then.

I am going to do exactly that. I have been gathering news clips from bbc, cnn, and will compile them. The customer rep I called today (the second time) game me the reference number so that means that the request went through. she also said I don't need to send anything yet. They'll contact me if i need to.

that being said, my concern is not just the violence around the elections. There is an auspicious trend with the violence in Kabul. It is getting worse and I am afraid it is not going to get any better. Especially if karzai does not win more than 50%. if he doesn't there is going to be a second round of voting...

anyway thanks for the help. I'll keep you guys posted as to what happens.

Try to expedite. You would probably get it.

I wish you all the luck and hope your fiancee arrives safely.

I don't mean this to be negative, but just to warn you - the expedite is only for the USCIS portion of the journey. Most of the rest of the journey takes the regular amount of time. Though you can try to keep pushing, I guess - but at the embassy everyone's in the same boat, so no way to skip the line based on that criteria any longer. So don't be expecting that this will grant her the visa in days. It will still be months.

Again, all the best.

thank you all for your support. I know that we still have a long way to go even if we get the expedite process in USCIS. she has to travel all the way to pakistan for medical/interview and visa, so its still going to be complicated and long.
