Yippee, I got my passport and visa back from the consulate yesterday!!! It is an IR-1 and it took two days. The brown envelope is actually quite heavy...about 1 kg....there goes my baggage allowance. I am leaving next week!!!!

I am not sure what form I need to fill out on the plane - does anyone know? It won't be the ETA (Visa Waiver) so I am abit unsure. Has anyone gone through this? Also, do you know how long it takes to go through immigration when I land because I have a close connecting flight.

Appreciate any info!

Cheers!

Congratulations, Corinne! If memory serves me correctly, when you arrive at LAX, the two queues (or lines!) are labeled "Citizens" and "Visitors". You get in the "Citizens" line - if in doubt, as someone pointed out there's an immigration officer on hand to direct. The drag with LAX is having to collect your baggage, clear customs, and then recheck it for the connecting flight, all in a state of utter exhaustion, but hopefully you'll just have to go upstairs, not to another terminal. I've had several nail-biting close connections but have always made it - just! Be prepared to run like a crazed zombie. No way of knowing how long it will take as it depends how many other flights arrive at the same time. Looking forward to reading your reunion post! :star:

Thanks VivianNYC and Kaffy, Hopefully it will be quite a quick process! Any tips on how to manage the excess luggage besides paying the airline exorbitant rates?

Thank you everyone for your good wishes. I have only 7 more sleeps to go in Sydney and then I am off!

My thoughts and prayers are with you all during your wait for interview. It should all be fine as I believe the interview is just a formality for most. Good luck and God bless!

I don't know about excess baggage because I knew someone at the airline who gave us an extra bag allowance (and an upgrade) ^_^ That gave us 300lb total allowance (we were both moving back) and then the rest of our stuff we just slow boated with Australia Post. It was the cheapest possible way and it was stuff like winter clothes which we weren't going to need for a while.. I think it took about 10 weeks or so for the boxes to arrive.

I used a shipping company when I moved to the US, so I don't know about excess luggage, sorry. Just keep in mind you'll be lugging it around the airport so try to keep it manageable. :star:
