We avoided getting an RFE for the J-1 visa thanks to oceansea's heads up. We wrote a letter with the information that they were requesting and didn't get an RFE.

But we still got another RFE! Somehow it looks like they can't find my husband's passport photos. And one operator insisted that we need a Canadian police certificate when we don't. Instead of just noting it, she said I should write a letter saying it wasn't required. Don't these people know their own rules?

I called another operator who said the police certificate wasn't required and I don't need to write a letter but my file still needs to be pulled and reviewed by a supervisor for the passport photos which can take 15 business days!

This cannot be for real. I'm going to be so upset if we miss June interviews because they can't find the passport photos.

Anyone else have this happen? Is it better to just send new photos? or wait?

Everything else is reviewed. My daughter is going to Germany to stay with my husband until he gets his visa. I don't want to think about it if it's delayed an additional month.

This is so terrible.

If they sent you a RFE - be sure to answer it, with the items they requested, don't wait on it.

Bureaucracy loves it paperwork, and if you don't answer the RFE, even if it's in error, may cause more delays.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Get what they want while you wait on the RFE so that you can respond quickly. If they gave you an RFE you are going to have to give them what they. At least they are looking at your case and you will be done soon either way. I believe all have to have a PCC and they are good for one year from date of issue. I got two RFE and gave them what they wanted and they finished quickly afterr that. It has been 18 months since I filed and I have an interview for my wife in two weeks.

The Canadian PCC is not required for us. We did not live there for more than a year. If that is on the RFE it is wrong. Another operator already confirmed that it is wrong and we do not have to submit anything for that. We had verified with the Frankfurt embassy before sending the DS 230. It takes months and months and months to obtain a Canadian PCC if that is going to be all of a sudden randomly required we are better off contacting a congressperson rather than waiting on that.

I don't know what is actually on the RFE because we are still waiting for the e-mail. I only know what the operators said and they haven't said the same thing. I guess we will end up just sending new photos and a letter overnight and hope that they will process it soon.

If they sent you a RFE - be sure to answer it, with the items they requested, don't wait on it.

Bureaucracy loves it paperwork, and if you don't answer the RFE, even if it's in error, may cause more delays.

mr Umit is right, dont wait on it, go ahead and send the requested items for the rfe, tha's what I did. I noticed the rfe before they had a chance to tell me and i sent in the corrected info, in one weeks time i was good to go!

Answer the RFE with another set of photos and keep the process moving.
