Hi.. just putting it out for all.. please..

In past two years . . my daughter Nikki has had a hell of a time with injuries..

broken patella from a Volleyball accident..resulting in surgery.. then broken ankle durning Lacrosse this time last year.

Durning that time we noticed a lump on her thigh.. the Physical therapist said it was simply muscular it would go away .. she probably had a bruise that was encapsulated.. soooo we thought as much .

but.. the dang lump hasnt gone away.. .. and actually has increased in size..... but now it is affecting her performance.. when she runs.. it pains her..

all day today.. she complained to me via textmessage.. while she was at school hahah .. I finally got tru to her doc... talked to the advise nurse.. .. they couldnt get her in.. but said to take her to emergency room since they can get her in faster for xray or ultrasound..

well we went.. .. the doc.. said.. hmmmmmm. yes there is a lump. quite obvious.. so sent her for xray.. and ultrasound. xray would show bone.. ultrasound would show soft tissue.. which is what he thought it was.. not .. bone..

when the results came.. .. doctor came in.. and showed me..

they found that her femur has a rather large bone growth.. osteoma

now we wait .. to get into the specialist..

normally these are non cancerous... but still it is a tumor..

she is scared.. I am trying to be strong. and not show my fear... ..

Please put some prayers out there for her... .. Im sure she will be fine.. but.. it is scary.. she is only 16..

Thanks Col Bat.. .. im just a bit mentally frazzled.. seeing this lump.. .. what I read about for treatment. is usually surgical.. however there has been a new therapy that is less drastic.. until i get to the Orthopedic surgeon and get a CT scan. we wont know the depth of it.. ..

We might be having a rather interesting road ahead..

You must be so worried! I have something similar on my right shin bone, I noticed it when I was 19 years old (I'm 35 now) & it was painful at first but it's eased off as the years passed. Now I just get pins & needles in my leg, especially on long flights. I had tests & it wasn't cancerous but I know how worrying it can be while waiting.

I hope your daughters tests prove to be the same! Good Luck. :star:

Don't get paranoid. A mole is a tumor. Not cancerous. There's something called benign and malignant tumor. If it's benign, no worries. You'll be surprise how many people have benign tumors without realizing it.

The important thing to remember is that most tumors are benign. So long as it doesn't dramatically increase in size, your daughter is most likely safe (although perhaps in a bit of discomfort). She might need surgery to correct the problem if it continues.

An NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) might help. It wouldn't reduce the size of your daughter's tumor, but it might help alleviate some of the pain and whatever external swelling is present. Over-the-counter NSAIDs include Naproxen (Aleve) and Ibuprofen (Advil). All NSAIDs cause a small amount of internal bleeding, but not enough to worry about. If she's on her period or has an open wound, it's best to wait until the bleeding has stopped.

If she needs steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, she might need a Medrol Dose Pack or Prednisone. Some serious side-effects could occur if she remains on a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for a long time, which is why these are intended for use on a short-term basis.

Don't take my word for it, however. For all you know, I might be some a$$hole who's trying to mislead you with false information. Go see her doctor. :star:
