My mom is a "Kindle-Holic." She bought one for herself, then 2 ("I've got to have one for back-up!"), then a third when the newer versions came out. She gave me one of the original 2 and I enjoy using it. When I went online to her amazon.com account I saw pages and pages of books that she has downloaded. I'd say she easily downloads 15 books a month (she's retired now).

While I love the Kindle, I think I'd rather go to the Library than spend that kind of cash on all of those instant downloads.

The library's my problem. I'm in remote iowa. There is a library here in town but i doubt it would have ANY of the kind of books that I read. I read this really interesting book because it was free and it turns out it's a $15 book that they had on sale (for FREE for a limited time). It's called "A little Death in Dixie". http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003STDO4O/ref=yml_dp it starts off just a regular "missing person" crime novel, but you see the lives of each person in the story as mini-stories and the twists are just.. wow. I definitely recommend it... **Warning though** if you're a sensitive sole one or two of the mini-stories might disturb you...

Good point! Will have to find the closest used book store. I think I might try Goodwill. I've seen that, but I haven't seen a used book store.

Yes! Goodwill is perfect. I have gotten Grisham novels for 49 cents there before! I think that's their going-rate for old paperbacks :)

Yeah, I am an addict to GoodWill as well and usually walk out with 2 or 3 books each visit. They cost more than 49 cents here unfortunately, but if I'm lucky I'll find ones I like at the half off colour and pay between 75 cents to $1.25 depending on paperback or hardcover. My husband just ordered in the Pandigital reader for a Christmas gift for us. He has been looking at the different eReaders for a while and this seems to meet our needs best for the least cost - don't need all the bells and whistles and apparently because it is an android system (he's the tech so he knows what that means!), he can also download the kindle software application to it. He keeps saying he is going to use it to read all of the hundreds of free books that come with it but we'll see - I can see him buying books he wants to read on the spot because he can :D . I think it will be much safer to our budget if I stay away from the thing - even ordering them in second hand online and paying shipping costs for anything I really want to read is going to be cheaper  . Besides, there is something so satisfying about holding a hard-copy book in your hand and turning the pages.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

. Lucy Maude Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Interesting. I'll have to give that a read. I just finished reading "Breathless". It was a little strange. lol. I just picked up John Grisham's The Street Lawyer. I can't recall if I have read it or not. I hope not. lol

That's actually one of the few Grisham's I didn't quite like or enjoy as much as I enjoyed his other works.

very much agreed! I love holding the actual book. I have heard great things about the Kindles, and I'm not knocking them, but it'll be a long time before I get one! I love books! Actual books!

And I love collecting/keeping them to re-read :)

Plus I can loan them to friends and borrow theirs, too!

Yeah, I think I'm too old to move to electronic books too.

Well that didn't come out right. I'm not calling you guys old!

Oh great. Well, I guess I won't bother reading it then. :hehe:

Actually, I'm a few chapters in and I'm quite enjoying it at the moment. Will let you know what I think.

 Thanks Krikit....I feel so much younger now! I received a Kindle for my birthday (39++ again!!! ) but haven't used it yet, somehow I feel like I'm cheating. I do like the feel of a book in my hands and turning the pages but I also like the convenience of having an electronic collection of books since my bookcase is full.

Mathew's mom got me The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and the rest of the books in the series a couple of Christmases ago. I attempted to read it, but it bored me to tears. I'll probably try again, but I'm so obsessed with my new kindle that I can't put it down.

I found some books on kindle written by Amanda Hocking, and I'm hooked on her. I've read her Trylle series and the My Blood Approves series. In two weeks. I normally don't go for books like that, but they were all less than $3 a piece. But, now that I'm finished I have to find something else to read. :crying:
