I was asked these questions quite often early in our relationship. But the best question was from a young man I did not know. I was talking to some people I knew about my upcoming wedding in the Phils.

The question, "So, you got a mail-order bride?"

My response, "No, what is a mail-order bride? How many do you have?"

His smile disappeared and then he tried to apologize.

Why couldn't you have found someone who lives around here?

united-states-map.gif

It happens to me every time I mention Leidys to friends, family, co-workers, etc.

What about you and your SO?

If someone I knew had the unabashed rudeness to ask such a personal question I wouldn't feel to obligated to be polite with my answer. Sample answers

"Like YOU did.... "

"Who wants to have sex twice a day with an American woman?"

"After living in Ukraine for 2 years American women interest me only as targets for throwing rocks, but they are usually too big to be challenging"

"I don't accept rstrictions on my choices like you do"

"They quit building good wives in this country, I drive an import"

Wow way to be a jerk...

I usually don't respond to things like this in forums but I'd like to make it clear that I didn't go looking out of the country for someone on purpose and that I never had and still don't have any problem with American men. (my husband was just way too good to pass up). Just like in any country, you've got your share of good ones and bad ones. (women included)

I'd like to think that people would be respectful in the forums, consider the other people around them and not just shout out whatever ####### comes to mind. I know they're supposed to be jokes but they're offensive and tasteless.

I like to come here to talk about this whole immigration process and this particular topic caught my eye because I've been asked this question by many an ignorant person before. Didn't think I'd encounter ignorant people in this topic, but hey I'm never surprised I guess.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if you want to bash american women, start an american women bashing forum. Go to town. Go crazy. I just don't think you should do it here.

He didn't but I did. His family thought I was next best thing thing to candy corn, but my mom had my dad's gun out when he met them for the first time.

They must really love you because candy corn is the best! It's candy vegetables!!!!!!

Most people think Candy Corn is the WORST invention of all time. It does not taste like candy, it does not taste like corn, and no one even eats it except during halloween. Kids wont knock on your door if you are handing this stuff out. :cry2:

well being that I am not the most well off of women and I have 3 children here in the states I think that would make people

wonder why I would look so far and make things harder for myself for love, Morocco to be exact.

I really dont give a rat's ####### what anyone thinks but it wasnt easy going through this process

neither is it easy adjusting to our new life together (as alot may think).

It is not the first time I have found love abroad and quite frankly I would say I have lost a taste for men here in the states.

I have tremendous interest in traveling and learning about different cultures and religions. We live in a great country, TRUE

but it is not the end all be all and alot can be learned from interactions and experiences from abroad.

Our relationship just happened, completely by accident ... but I had traveled to Ukraine once before to look around ...

SteveColo,

I LOVE the dress your wife is wearing in your signature pictures! We are having a very small wedding here in Brazil in a couple weeks (in the church here, but with only about 10 people watching) and wedding dresses here are CRAZY expensive! And, since we are doing something so small I didn't want to go out and spend $2,000 on a fluffy wedding dress! But, I want to find something exactly like the one in your pictures! :) You have inspired me! Thank you! ;)

And to answer the posted question: No, we don't get that question a lot. But I think that it is only because most people who know me in any capacity, know that I have lived abroad for 4 years. The get a bit confused when I tell them that I met my Brazilian fiance in LONDON...but they soon get over that.

I get asked this about once a month or so.

I just shrug and say, "Everyone is human, I see no difference..."

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Nicely said  It really is a matter of preference and taste (with a bit of coloring from our life experience). I have nothing against American women at all, but already really loved the culture of Eastern Europe. Although I met Vika here, our mutual interest in each other definitely extended to each other's cultures too. This mutual, cultural interest and respect definitely adds to our relationship.
