Has anybody had any problems with a K1 Visa because of a big age difference between the couple? Being the woman way older than the man.

I have never heard of that being a problem. It will not be with the petition, I cannot state for sure that some consulate somewhere doesn't have a problem with it but never saw anything about it.

If elder men doesn't have a problem therefore elder women doesn't too.

If only that were true. In reality it isn't. Lots of people have had that problem particularly when it's taboo in the local culture.

Yes it is one of the many bias where this process isn't as friendly as it claims. Biases exist for the women being significantly older. Also for the couple being of different colors. The process favors an older male from a European country just like it allows those couples to see each other more freely.

Yeah from what I've seen over the years banging around on immigration sites . Woman that are significally older and are petitioning younger men have more problems with approvals.

Also seems like they tend to be victims of visa fraud more often also.

However looks like both older men and older women are more frequently being victims of visa fraud as the number of people having computers increase in 3rd world countries!

Rumor has it that Egypt gives them a hard time, but in the end if they can't find some concrete reason to deny, they give the visa. Unlike Morocco that frequently denies based on this issue.

I have an acquaintence in my city that is around 60, her fiancee in Egypt is in his early 30's and she can't even find an attorney to take the case and file the paperwork for her, not sure I believe this, but that is what she has said.

I guess these days it's only a $500 roll of the dice to see what happens...Suggest you post your timeline for better assistance from VJ...

Well, hush my mouth! There you go, I guess I am not following the right threads.

I will say this and then run from this thread for fear of being killed in a cyber drive-by shooting. And mind you, personally I couldn't care less about such things and wish everyone only happiness. End of disclaimer.

I lived in Eastern Europe, the culture and realtionships between men and women are completely different than here and other "English based cultures" and much different even than western European cultures. I also lived in UK and Canada. Not in the military but actually living, working and renting flats with everyone else. There is NO women's liberation. Or very little, though some small amounts seem to be creeping in, very small amounts. For example, women can BY LAW be paid less than men for the same jobs. In their culture it is VERY unusual for the man in a couple to be older than the woman, men are frequently elder by a LOT. Women consider men 10 years older ideal, 20 years older is just as good. And it is not only the women that will not consider younger men, it is the men that will not consider older women (or taller women, you almost never see a couple where the woman is taller than the man) This is not a fad, not a passing trend. The men in Ukraine have such a strong cultural need to "be a man" there are many cases of them being killed while crossing the steet because looking both ways is not "manly". There is a nearly 20 year gap in the life expectancy of men and women because of all these "manly acts". I contend it is another reason women prefer older men. An man in his 40s or 50s has already survived his "manly years" LOL But you have to understand it is much more than a "social norm". A woman who marries a younger man can lose the respect of her family and friends and that is also a strong cultural influence, the man will also suffer the same consequence.

I cannot comment about Egypt, or other middle eastern countries. But if this is a "problem" in those consulates I can only say the culture goes deeper and is more powerful than eastern Europe. Despite the culture in Ukraine I cannot possibly imagine the consulate rejecting a visa for this reason. They may think the couple is crazy, but they would approve the visa if all else was correct.

My caution is this. If you are a woman, older than your foreign fiance, and he is from a culture where this kind of thing is a big "taboo", be very careful. He is going against very strong, ingrained from birth, cultural rules. I hope, really, it is because none of that is important to him and he is deeply in love with you and you live happily ever after.

See you can never depend on me. I said I would run but I came back. :jest:

Personally, me neither, and I will only note that after living in the USA, Canada, England and Ukraine my wife is Ukrainian. :) The obvious lack of liability attorneys and politically correct weinies is also refreshing, but it is up to YOU not to fall in the bushel- basket-size hole in the sidewalk. I can handle it!

I will also say, I really don't care what others do in choosing their loved ones, I wish them the best and make no judgements except for myself. As for me, I will take an unliberated-loves-to-be-a-woman-younger-than-me wife anyday.

I guess it depends on what you consider WAY older. There is a difference between John and I of 9 years, we are possibly luckier being I am Australian, living in the UK, my 'culture' doesn't think too much of the age difference.

The most I have experienced is from John himself who constantly calls me his 'Cougar'

All interesting cultural discourse aside, the much older woman with younger man issue impacting visa issuance is not about anything to do with whether such relationships can be successful. It's a problem for people because it fits a common fraud profile. The difficulties don't stem from whether a Consular offficer thinks the relationship can succeed but rather whether it is a sham perpetrated to obtain legal US entry for the intending immigrant.

If the visa is denied, the reason given would related to the bona fides, not the age difference. Please note, I'm not giving my own opinion about the age difference issue. I'm simply explaining how Consulates tend to deal with such issues in places where this fraud scenario is common. In short, the evidence of a bona fide ongoing relationship must be extremely strong, to obtain the visa, particularly a fiance visa. For contrast, we recently had a member post about the prospects of a fiancee visa for a young woman that was his cousin's adopted daughter. Because that fits a fraud scenario, they can expect additional scrutiny but that fraud scenario is not also considered a national security issue. When the beneficiary is a young Egyptian man, the concern is not just visa fraud, but national security.
