I wonder how "understanding" the Obama-Bots would be if it were ####### Cheney Rather than Barack who the tax evasion was attributed?

I don't think that's true to be honest.

I was always under the impression that Obama was a typical politician. I find ideas more appealing than rhetoric - unfortunately elections turn as much on rhetoric as they do on a coherent policy platform. McCain/Palin were bad at the former and just couldn't offer the latter.

Anyone who believes that politicians file their own taxes is kidding themselves. Although, that doesn't completely absolve them of the responsibility - the issue is whether these kinds of oversights were deliberate or not.

Dead wrong. Ignorance is no defence in law. Having someone else prepare your taxes doesn't absolve you of ANY responsibility.

At least Daschle did the honourable thing and fell on his sword. Geithner, in an even more prominent position, of fiscal responsibility no less, should have done the same. When a politician gets caught in office, they resign. They should never be allowed to take office in the first place if their record is tainted.

Quite, not one Democrat follows a code of ethical conduct or accepts responsibility for anything they do, unlike every single GOP party Senator and delegate who obviously are all totally scrupulous, ethical and models of appropriate behaviour.

That's what I find hysterical, not that the loony right should not censor bad behaviour from members of the opposition party, but that they do so from a standpoint that 'their' side is beyond reproach. The absolute contempt to which people like VW hold the Dims (pathetic name calling) and the lofty pedestal on which they place members of their preferred party is utterly divisive and really very unpatriotic.

The IRS did not care for my excuse either thought my accountant screwed up. I still remember my fight with them and when I gave up after they garnished my bank account and wages. They did give me what they thought was a decent allowance to live on.

Yeah but all they do in the first instance is send you a bill for the unpaid taxes right? You don't get bounced directly to court or jail unless you did illegal to avoid paying.

It would surely be more of a problem if the politicians involved were actually unable to pay what was outstanding.
