I have read the 'passport picture guideline faq' but I was just wondering if this pic is okay (if lighting is too dark, if everything is proportional, and if the facial hair interferes too much...). I am not sure if it makes any difference but i did crop it...

It seeems ok but if u want to be 100% sure,

just get the passport photos taken at the photo shop.

Take ur worries n doubts away.

You're getting financially screwed if you get it done at a photo shop. They charge an insane amount of money, and even then, they don't always meet the requirements!! The basic requirements can be found at http://travel.state.gov/passport/guide/com...sition_874.html

In my opinion, you should just upload that photo to the tool at http://www.epassportphoto.com/ . It will give you a 4x6 print that has six passport photos ready for submission. Then, assuming you have the technology, you can just copy that to a memory card and print it out at Wal-Mart for 26¢, and cut the six passport photos apart.

We used it. It was easy, cheap, and we had no problems with the immigration process.

Good luck!

it isn't exactly square and the facial area may be a little small. Use the epassportphoto site it has little bars you line up the top of head and chin in so you get that part right. That is the one they get fussy about sometime.

Yea dont trust the employees at the Photo place, I went to Black's in canada, paid $20 for the US size passport photo and they made me the Canadian size. Good thing I checked when I got home and also found a cheaper place and got my $ back.

I've used http://www.epassportphoto.com/ twice now (my 2nd time was yesterday) and it is really easy to use. If you have an uncropped version of that picture, use that on the website. I bought a paper trimmer from Wal-Mart for about $10 (Carl RBT 12) so I didn't really save anything the first time I used it, but it was nice to only pay $0.19 + tax at Walgreens. I'm sure I may be printing more passport pictures later on.

iv noticed that a lot of times even if u get it done 'professionally' at cvs the employees have no idea wat theyre doing

It is clear that the girl who took my I-129F photo at CVS had never read nor heard of USCIS Passport style photo Guidelines. I should've gotten a friend to take my picture.

I've twice taken photos with a digital camera for people and they tried to submit them for their passports. One went through fine. For the other, they said the background looked too gray. From looking at yours, it looks the same as the one I submitted that was too gray. Of course, that's a subjective call.

well i might get some ####### for this but.. i ended up just getting 4 passport pics at wal-mart while i was doing some grocery shopping.... I MADE SURE they were the 2x2 inch length and that they were proportional to what i have seen in the guidelines. Fortunately, the lady messed up on one f the pictures and i received 2 extra copies; a total of 4 passport pics for around $10. Pretty hefty i know for a few pictures.... i just want to make sure i do this right and be with my girl asap.... Thanks again for the replies!

The thing I notice is that there are shadows on the background. Not as bad as the example on the state department page here http://travel.state.gov/passport/guide/qua...uality_877.html, but definitely noticeable.

To avoid the shadows and keep the background pure white, an actual photo studio would use the lighting shown here http://travel.state.gov/passport/guide/setup/setup_873.html .

If you don't have lights that can be set up as shown, at least try and orient the camera so that the flash is directly above the lens. That way, the shadow falls on the background directly behind the head, instead of to the side. With some small digital cameras, that's hard to do without tilting the camera at a weird angle. But at least try switching the camera between horizontal and vertical orientation to see if you can minimize the shadow.

Then again, maybe they don't care about such details in the lighting. I really don't know where they draw the line. I know a lot of passport places don't use an elaborate lighting setup, but just have a little digicam with an on-camera flash. And I don't often hear of photos being rejected for immigration purposes, so I suspect the immigration folks may be fairly lenient.
